  1. 1. Structural studies on aerobic and anaerobic respiratory complexes

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Susanna Törnroth; Lars Hederstedt; [2002]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Biochemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : All respiratory pathways, whether aerobic or anaerobic, are based on formation of an electrochemical proton gradient called proton motive force (pmf) that drives ATP formation. Membrane-bound respiratory complexes translocate protons across the membrane from a region of low [H+] and negative electrical potential to a region of high [H+] and positive electrical potential. 2. 2. Insane in the membrane: Insertion of marginally hyrdophobic transmembrane helices and global analysis of membrane protein topology

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Stockholm University

    Author : Daniel Nilsson; Arne Elofsson; Susanna Törnroth Horsefield; [2014]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Proteins are responsible for carrying out most of the tasks in a living cell; transcription, translation, replication, movement, catalysis and communication to mention a few. A subset of proteins is the integral membrane proteins, IMPs, which play an important role in governing communication across membranes, whether it is the plasma membrane or an organelle membrane.
