  1. 1. The flow of pulp suspensions

    Author : Helena Fock; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulp suspensions; Velocity profile; Concentration profile; Wall layer; Particle image velocimetry; Flow behaviour; Computational fluid dynamics; Ultrasound velocity profiling;

    Abstract : Large quantities of pulp suspensions are handled in the pulp and paper industry and knowledge of their flow behaviour is very important in the design and operation of process equipment. Despite this, there is still a lack of a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of the pulp suspension flow. READ MORE

  2. 2. Suspensions of finite-size rigid particles in laminar and turbulent flows

    Author : Walter Fornari; Luca Brandt; Jérémie Bec; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Suspensions; complex fluids; sedimentation; rheology; turbulence;

    Abstract : Dispersed multiphase flows occur in many biological, engineering and geophysical applications. Understanding the behavior of suspensions is a difficult task. In the present work, we numerically study the behavior of suspensions of finite-size rigid particles in different flows. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fluid mechanics of fibre suspensions related to papermaking

    Author : Richard Holm; Gustav Amberg; R. Krekes; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Applied mechanics; applied fluid mechanics; fibre suspensions; roll-forming; sedimentation; shear flow; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with fluid dynamic mechanisms related to papermaking, specif- ically: the initial dewatering mechanisms during roll-forming and fibre motion in sedimentation and in shear flow. Pressure and wire position measurements have been conducted in a model resembling the forming zone and the measured pressure distributions are shown to have more complex patterns than the simple model p / T/R (where T is the wire tension and R is the roll radius). 5. 5. Rheological Properties of Microfibrillated Cellulose

    Author : Tobias Moberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rheological properties; creep; Extensional viscosity; Microfibrillated cellulose; suspensions; ;

    Abstract : Cellulose has for a long time been used by man. It is renewable and an easily recyclable resource. Mostly it has been used in either its native form as wood or in the form of fibres. READ MORE
