7. Magnesium Chelatase: Insights into the first Step of Chlorophyll Biosynthesis
Abstract : The enzyme magnesium chelatase inserts magnesium into protoporphyrin IX (Proto) to produce to magnesium protoporphyrin IX, the first unique intermediate of the chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway. Magnesium chelatase is composed of three distinct proteins termed I (molecular weight ~40 kDa), D (~70 kDa) and H (~140 kDa). READ MORE

8. Drivers of increasing iron concentrations in freshwaters
Abstract : Iron (Fe) concentrations are increasing in freshwaters (lakes and streams) in Sweden, as well as in other regions in northern Europe. Together with increasing concentrations of organic matter, Fe is contributing to the ongoing browning of freshwaters, which may have serious ecological consequences and implications for ecosystem services. 9. Nutrient imbalance in Norway spruce
Abstract : The studies presented in my thesis indicate that growing Norway spruce in monoculture does not constitute sustainable forest management in a high N and S deposition environment, such as in southern Sweden. The combination of N-induced high growth rates and leaching due to soil acidification causes soil reserves of nutrients to decrease. READ MORE

10. Ecology and evolution of coastal Baltic Sea 'dead zone' sediments
Abstract : Since industrialization and the release of agricultural fertilizers began, coastal and open waters of the Baltic Sea have been loaded with nutrients. This has increased the growth of algal blooms and because a portion of the algal organic matter sinks to the sea floor, hypoxia has increased. READ MORE
