1. Ulcerative colitis : Imaging of inflammation
Abstract : Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflannnatory disorder of unknown origin engaging the large bowel. Based on the need for accurate assessment of inflammation, three different non-invasive techniques, two leukocyte scintigraphy techniques and one radiological method, were evaluated in the assessment of active inflammation in altogether 131 patients with ulcerative colitis. 2. Thrombin generation in different cohorts : Evaluation of the haemostatic potential
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to evaluate thrombin generation in patients with thrombophilia (Paper I), in patients with venous thromboembolism (Paper II), in healthy women during the menstrual cycle (Paper III), in patients with liver disease (Paper IV) and in patients with mild deficiency of factor VII (Paper V).For this purpose, thrombin generation was measured in platelet poor plasma by the calibrated automated thrombogram (CAT®) assay. 3. Interindividual differences in thiopurine metabolism : studies with focus on inflammatory bowel disease
Abstract : The thiopurines, 6-mercaptopurine and its prodrug azathioprine, are used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis and Crohn´s disease. The main active metabolites are the phosphorylated thioguanine nucleotides (6-TGNs) and methylated thioinosine monophosphate (meTIMP). READ MORE

5. Development of new methodology for therapeutic drug monitoring of thiopurine treatment
Abstract : The three thiopurine drugs azathioprine (AZA), 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) and 6-thioguanine (6-TG) are used to treat several diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). They are pro-drugs and are believed to act through the formation of thioguanine nucleotides (TGNs). READ MORE
