  1. 1. Cardiac effects of non-adrenergic inotropic drugs : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Birger Axelsson; Michael Haney; Hans Tydén; Anil Gupta; Patrick Wouters; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Milrinone; levosimendan; vein graft flow; myocardial ischemia; protection; inotropy; diastole; Anaesthesiology; anestesiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Myocardial failure and dysfunction is not uncommon during critical illness and following cardiac surgery. For optimal treatment, a better understanding of the effects of inotropic drugs is needed. In this thesis, two non-adrenergic mediated inotropes, milrinone and levosimendan were studied in different models of myocardial dysfunction. READ MORE

  2. 2. Between the Probe and the Pump : An experimental study on cardiac performance analysis based on Echocardiography, tissue and laser Doppler

    Author : Laila Hübbert; Birgitta Janerot-Sjöberg; Ulf Dahlström; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Echocardiography is an ultrasound-based bedside, non-invasive and easily available cardiac diagnostic technique visualising the heart’s morphology and function. Quantification of cardiac wall motion can be measured with the tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI) modality which provides in humans a high diagnostic capacity to differentiate healthy from diseased myocardium with reduced function. 3. 3. Function of granulocytes after burns and trauma, associations with pulmonary vascular permeability, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and immunomodulation

    Author : Joakim Johansson; Folke Sjöberg; Lennart Lindbom; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ARDS; azurocidin; burn; CAP-37; critical care; granulocyte; HBP; histamine; intensive care; leucocyte; leukocyte; mediator; methylhistamine; MOF; oedema; neutrophil; permeability; PMN; trauma; vascular permeability;

    Abstract : Background: Our innate immunesystem protects us from infections but, since its methods is not all specific for microorganisms, may also induce collateral damage.Severe physical injury often proved deadly throughout evolution. Such injuries may induce massive collateral damage. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cerebral Perfusion and Metabolism during Experimental Extracorporeal Circulation

    Author : Ove Jonsson; Stefan Thelin; Fredrik Lennmyr; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebral perfusion; Experimental brain research; Experimentell hjärnforskning; Thoraxkirurgi; Thorax Surgery;

    Abstract : Neurologic injuries are major causes of mortality and morbidity after cardiac surgery. This thesis aimed to investigate cerebral metabolism and perfusion abnormalities in pigs during hypothermic circulatory arrest, selective antegrade cerebral perfusion (SACP) and extracorporeal circulation following progressive venous stasis. 5. 5. Perioperative myocardial damage and cardiac outcome in patients-at-risk undergoing non-cardiac surgery

    Author : Anna Oscarsson Tibblin; Christina Eintrei; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Myocardial damage; cardiac complication; outcome; aspirin; acetylsalicylic acid; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård;

    Abstract : Despite increasingly sophisticated perioperative management, cardiovascular complications continue to be major challenges for the clinician. As a growing number of elderly patients with known coronary artery disease (CAD) or with risk factors for CAD are undergoing non-cardiac surgery, cardiovascular complications will remain a significant clinical problem in the future.
