  1. 1. Inclusion Behaviour under a Swirl Flow in a Continuous Casting Process

    Author : Yang Ying; Pär Jönsson; Dong-Yuan Sheng; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; inclusion behaviour; swirl flow; rotating magnetic field; electromagnetic swirl flow generator; full type; half type; submerged entry no zzle; mold;

    Abstract : A swirl flow generated in a submerged entry nozzle (SEN) can effectively improve a flow pattern and heat transfer in a continuous casting process by using the methods of “swirl blade type” and “electromagnetic type”. In order to obtain a further in-depth understanding with respect to the effect of a swirl flow on a continuous casting process, the inclusion behaviour in a SEN and a mold was studied in the present work. 2. 2. Inclusion Motion under a Swirl Flow in the Continuous Casting Process and Wire Feeding in the Induction Furnace

    Author : Ying Yang; Pär Jönsson; Seppo Louhenkilpi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; inclusion motion; swirl flow; rotating magnetic field; electromagnetic swirl flow generator; full type; half type; submerged entry nozzle; mold; wire feeding; melting behavior; FeSiRE particle powder motion; induction furnace;

    Abstract : The thesis includes the studies of two phenomena related to continuous casting. One subject is the inclusion motion in the submerged entry nozzle (SEN) and mold when using a swirl flow. The swirl flow is generated in a SEN by using an electromagnetic swirl flow generator (EMSFG). READ MORE

  3. 3. A Study of the Initial Mould Filling during Up-hill Ingot Casting

    Author : Line Hallgren; Pär Jönsson; Anders Tilliander; Seppo Louhenkilpi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; swirling flow; up-hill teeming; nozzle; casting; fluid flow; modelling; CFD; LDA; swirl; ingot casting; filling; red eye;

    Abstract : The fluid flow in the mould during up-hill teeming is of great importance for the quality of the cast ingot and thereby the quality of the final steel products. At the early stage of the filling of an up-hill teeming mould, liquid steel flows with a high velocity from the runner into the mould. READ MORE

  4. 4. Creation and destruction of in-cylinder flows : Large eddy simulations of the intake and the compression strokes

    Author : Martin Söder; Laszlo Fuchs; Angelo Onorati; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Swirl; Tumble; Compression; Engine; LES; CFD; engine turbulence; engine simulations; intake flow structures; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to increase engine efficiency by studying the flow structures created in an engine cylinder during the intake phase and the effect of the subsequent compression.The invention of the combustion engine has enabled three centuries of economic growth fueled by energy stored as hydrocarbons. 5. 5. A physical modeling study of top blowing with focus on the penetration region

    Author : Annie Nordquist; Per Jönsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; physical modelling; top blown converters; lances; blowing; penetration; swirl; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis work aimed at increasing the knowledge regarding phenomena occurring when gas is injected using a top-blown lance on to a bath. All results are based on physical modeling studies carried out both using low and high gas flow rates and nozzle diameters ranging from 0.8 mm to 3.0 mm. READ MORE
