  1. 6. Wheel–Rail Impact Loads and Track Settlement in Railway Crossings

    Author : Xin Li; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vehicle--track dynamics; wheel--rail contact; track settlement; material modelling of ballast; Switches and crossings; turnout; cyclic loading; Green s functions;

    Abstract : Turnouts (Switches & Crossings, S&C) are critical components of a railway track requiring regular maintenance and generating high life cycle costs. A main driver for the high maintenance costs is the need to repair and replace switch rails and crossings as these components are subjected to a severe load environment. READ MORE

  2. 7. Development of life cycle cost model and analyses for railway switches and crossings

    Author : Arne Nissen; Ajit Kumar Verma; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Drift och underhållsteknik; Operation and Maintenance;

    Abstract : Infrastructure managers need to have a safe and available infrastructure, so that train operators can deliver a transport product at an affordable price. In the future, as traffic volume increases, higher utilisation of the existing capacity, less time for maintenance and fewer unplanned interruptions will be critical for meeting the ever increasing need of transport capacity. 3. 8. Simulation of Dynamic Interaction between Train and Turnout

    Author : Elias Kassa; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dynamic train–turnout interaction; wheel–rail contact geometry; switches and crossings; multibody dynamics; contact forces;

    Abstract : Dynamic train–track interaction is more complex in railway turnouts (switches & crossings) than on ordinary tangent or curved tracks. Multiple contacts between wheel and rail are common, and severe impact loads with broad frequency contents are induced when the nominal wheel–rail contact conditions are disturbed due to the continuous variation in rail profiles and the discontinuities in the crossing panel. 4. 9. Long-term rail damage evolution in railway crossings

    Author : Rostyslav Skrypnyk; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wear; S C; plasticity; wheel-rail contact mechanics; switches crossings; FEM; metamodel; Dynamic vehicle-track interaction;

    Abstract : To accommodate the passage of wheels in intersecting traffic routes, fixed railway crossings have discontinuous rails leading to an intense load environment due to repeated wheel-rail impacts. This gives rise to high costs associated with repair and maintenance of the rails in the crossing. 5. 10. Towards simulation-based optimisation of materials in railway crossings

    Author : Rostyslav Skrypnyk; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wheel-rail contact mechanics; plasticity; metamodel; wear; S C; Dynamics vehicle-track interaction; switches crossings; FEM;

    Abstract : Railway crossings are subjected to an intense load environment caused by the rail discontinuities needed to accommodate the passage of wheel flanges in intersecting traffic directions. This gives rise to high costs associated with repair and maintenance. READ MORE
