  1. 1. Evolution and biodiversity of the Ixoroideae (Rubiaceae)

    Author : Kent Kainulainen; Birgitta Bremer; Sylvain Razafimandimbison; Torsten Eriksson; Sandra Knapp; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alberteae; character evolution; classification; Condamineeae; fruit evolution; Ixoroideae; phylogenetics; pollen presentation; Rubiaceae; systematics; taxonomy; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; växtsystematik; Plant Systematics;

    Abstract : The phylogenetic relationships within subfamily Ixoroideae of the coffee family are investigated by phylogenetic reconstruction of molecular data, including regions of the chloroplast DNA (matK, ndhF, rbcL, rps16, trnH-psbA, trnS-G, and trnT-F), and the nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS). The evolution of morphological characters within the group are inferred, with focus on characters used in classification. READ MORE

  2. 2. Systematics and Biogeography of Western Indian Ocean Region Rubiaceae : examples from Danaideae, Hymenodictyeae, and Naucleeae

    Author : Åsa Krüger; Sylvain Razafimandimbison; Mary Endress; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; växtsystematik; Plant Systematics;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the systematics and biogeography of the tribes Danaideae, Hymenodictyeae, and Naucleeae in the angiosperm family Rubiaceae (coffee family), with a special interest in the Western Indian Ocean region (WIOR). The levels of endemism in the WIOR are remarkably high and Madagascar is the largest island surrounded by three main archipelagos with islands of various age and size. READ MORE

  3. 3. Phylogeny and topological incongruence in the Rubioideae (Rubiaceae)

    Author : Olle Thureborn; Catarina Rydin; Sylvain G. Razafimandimbison; Niklas Wikström; Michael D. Pirie; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anthospermeae; cytonuclear discordance; gene trees; incomplete lineage sorting; incongruence; mitochondrial genome; nuclear genome; phylogenomics; phylogeny; plastid genome; Rubiaceae; Rubioideae; species trees; Plant Systematics; växtsystematik;

    Abstract : The work with this thesis has focused on evolutionary relationships in the Rubioideae, the most species-rich subfamily of the large and diverse coffee family (Rubiaceae). Despite considerable efforts during the last decades, uncertainty regarding several relationships in this group has remained, either as a result of unconvincing statistic support, incongruent results, or insufficient taxon sampling.
