  1. 11. Studies in Glacier Mass Balance : Measurement and its errors

    Author : Andrew Mercer; Peter Jansson; Gunhild Rosqvist; Ian Brown; Jonathan Carrivick; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glaciology; Mass Balance; Measurement Errors; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The study of the surface mass balance of valley glaciers has a long history but one that is dogged by uncertainty and errors, and uncertainty about those errors. These problems are acknowledged by the glaciological community and have been examined and formalised in several publications. READ MORE

  2. 12. Study and Application of Modern Bridge Monitoring Techniques

    Author : Ignacio González; Raid Karoumi; Christian Cremona; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Health Monitoring; Traffic Monitoring; Bridge Monitoring; Bridge Weigh-In-Motion; BWIM; Damage Detection; Suspension Bridge Bearings; Axle Loads; Dynamics;

    Abstract : The field of monitoring is one of rapid development. Advances in sensor technologies, in data communication paradigms and data processing algorithms all influence the possibilities of Structural Health Monitoring, damage detection, traffic monitoring and other implementations of monitoring systems. Abstract : A growing number of factors, including the costs, technological advancements, an ageing population, and medical errors are leading industrialised countries to invest in research on alternative solutions to improving their health care systems and increasing patients’ life quality. Personal Health System (PHS) solutions envision the use of information and communication technologies that enable a paradigm shift from the traditional hospital-centred healthcare delivery model toward a preventive and person-centred approach. Abstract : Wire made from metal is a fundamental component found in almost every complex product, ranging from a simple pen to a spacecraft. It is used to manufacture nails, screws, springs, rivets, cables, welding electrodes, and numerous other items that surround us daily. READ MORE

  5. 15. Artificial Intelligence for Non-Contact-Based Driver Health Monitoring

    Author : Hamidur Rahman; Mobyen Uddin Ahmed; Shahina Begum; Peter Funk; Hasan Fleyeh; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Driver Monitoring; Artificial Intelligence; Machine Learning; Deep Learning; Computer Science; datavetenskap;

    Abstract : In clinical situations, a patient’s physical state is often monitored by sensors attached to the patient, and medical staff are alerted if the patient’s status changes in an undesirable or life-threatening direction. However, in unsupervised situations, such as when driving a vehicle, connecting sensors to the driver is often troublesome and wired sensors may not produce sufficient quality due to factors such as movement and electrical disturbance.
