  1. 11. Aspects of carnivoran evolution in Africa

    Author : Reihaneh Dehghani; Lars Werdelin; Philippe Gaubert; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carnivora; Evolution; Africa; Viverridae; Herpestidae; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; Systematic Zoology; systematisk zoologi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the evolution of African small carnivorans, with emphasis on East African Viverridae and Herpestidae (Carnivora, Mammalia). Viverridae and Herpestidae are two Old World feliform (belonging to the cat branch) carnivoran families with a confusing, and sometimes even misleading, taxonomic and systematic history, in addition to a scarce fossil record. 2. 12. Patterns and Processes of Evolution in Sundaland

    Author : Robert-Jan den Tex; Jennifer A. Leonard; Lawrence R. Heaney; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; Genetics; Genetik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Abstract : Biodiversity in the tropics is disproportionately high compared to other habitats, and also under disproportionate threat from human impact. It is necessary to understand how this diversity evolved and how it is partitioned across space in order to preserve it. READ MORE

  3. 13. Systematics in Sileneae (Caryophyllaceae) – Taxonomy and Phylogenetic patterns

    Author : Frida Eggens; Bengt Oxelman; Magnus Lidén; Susan R. Kephart; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sileneae; Silene; RNAP; psbE-petG; ITS; rps16; relative dating; Rigidulae; Heliosperma; Arenosae; phylogeny; homoploid reticulate evolution; Silene linearis Decne.; Silene polyphylla L.; Hawaiian Silene; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni;

    Abstract : The focus for the first part of the thesis is on the systematics of species belonging to Silene subgenus Silene. Phylogenetic relationships are inferred from DNA sequences from both the plastid (the rps16 intron) and the nuclear (ITS, intron of the RPB2 gene) genomes. READ MORE

  4. 14. Systematics of Eucoilini : Exploring the diversity of a poorly known group of Cynipoid parasitic wasps

    Author : Mattias Forshage; Fredrik Ronquist; Göran Nordlander; John Heraty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eucoila; Trybliographa; Eucoilini; Eucoilinae; Figitidae; Cynipoidea; Hymenoptera; phylogenetics; diagnostics; classification; taxonomy; systematic revision; morphology; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; Entomology; entomologi; systematisk zoologi; Systematic Zoology;

    Abstract : Many animal species are still undiscovered, even in Sweden. This thesis deals with the wasps of the subfamily Eucoilinae (of Figitidae, Cynipoidea), a poorly known group of small parasitoids of Dipteran flies. READ MORE

  5. 15. Molecular phylogenetics and taxonomic issues in dragonfly systematics (Insecta: Odonata)

    Author : Rasmus Hovmöller; Thomas Pape; Mari Källersjö; Kjell Arne Johanson; Karl Kjer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni;

    Abstract : Dragonflies (Odonata) are one of the ancestral groups of extant insects. They represent one of the three most basal branches in the phylogeny of winged insects. The other two groups are the Ephemeroptera, mayflies, and Neoptera, the latter which covers the remaining winged insects. READ MORE
