  1. 6. Genetic Risk Factors for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus : From Candidate Genes to Functional Variants

    Author : Anna-Karin Abelson; Marta Alarcón-Riquelme; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; SLE; association study; complex disease; genetic; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to identify genetic variants that increase the susceptibility for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease caused by a complex interplay between various genetic and environmental factors. Five different candidate genes were selected through different strategies, and were analysed for association with SLE in an attempt to distinguish some of the underlying mechanisms of this disease. 3. 8. Genetic Mapping of Susceptibility Genes for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    Author : Bo Johanneson; Jean Pierre Hugot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; Association analysis; Candidate gene; Complex disease; Genome scan; Linkage analysis; Mapping; Susceptibility genes; Systemic lupus erythematosus; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease with unknown etiology. The aim of this thesis was to identify susceptibility regions through genetic mapping, using model-based linkage analysis on nuclear and extended SLE multicase families. READ MORE

  4. 9. Mechanisms of Interferon-α Induction in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    Author : Ullvi Båve; Lars Rönnblom; Gunnar V. Alm; Ingrid Lundberg; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have an activated type I interferon (IFN) system with an ongoing IFN-α synthesis. This may be caused by circulating immune complexes, consisting of anti-DNA antibodies (Abs) and DNA, with IFN-α inducing capacity. READ MORE

  5. 10. Cardiovascular Disease and Immune Mechanisms in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    Author : Dag Leonard; Lars Rönnblom; Gunnel Nordmark; Maija-Leena Eloranta; Søren Jacobsen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune, inflammatory disease characterized by autoantibody production and an activated type I interferon system. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is as a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this thesis was to identify genetic risk factors for CVD in SLE. READ MORE
