  1. 1. Acupuncture - effects on muscle blood flow and aspects of treatment in the clinicla context

    Author : Margareta Sandberg; Björn Gerdle; Lars-Goran Lindberg; Thomas List; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acupuncture; muscle blood flow; non-invasive; photoplethysmography; fibromyalgia; pain; postmenopausal symptoms; psychological distress; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to elucidate and investigate psychophysiological aspects and effects of acupuncture and needle stimulation. Within this framework emphasis was directed toward the effects of needle stimulation (acupuncture) on muscle blood flow in the tibialis anterior and trapezius muscles in healthy subjects and patients suffering from chronic muscle pain. 2. 2. T cell signatures and modulation by regulatory T cells

    Author : Rubin Narayan Joshi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : CD4 T cells are crucial coordinators of protective immune responses against microbes and tumors. However, immune responses misdirected towards self-antigens are the hallmarks of autoimmune diseases. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) maintain peripheral immune tolerance, mainly by suppressing effector T cells. READ MORE

  3. 3. Infection induced chronic inflammation and it's association with prostate cancer initiation and progression

    Author : Sabina Davidsson; Ove Andrén; Bo Söderquist; Jennifer Rider; Gisela Helenius; Jan-Erik Damber; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; chronic inflammation; CD4 helper T cells; CD8 cytotoxic T cells; regulatory T cells; Propionibacterium acnes; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : An association between cancer development and inflammation has long been suggested. Approximately 20% of all human cancers in adults are assumed to result from chronic inflammation. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if infection-induced chronic inflammation plays a role in prostate carcinogenesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modeling the Role of Energy Management in Embodied Cognition

    Author : Alberto Montebelli; Tom Ziemke; Robert Lowe; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Technology; Teknik;

    Abstract : The quest for adaptive and autonomous robots, flexible enough to smoothly comply with unstructured environments and operate in close interaction with humans, seems to require a deep rethinking of classical engineering methods. The adaptivity of natural organisms, whose cognitive capacities are rooted in their biological organization, is an obvious source of inspiration. READ MORE
