  1. 1. Origin and Lifestyles of early Brachiopods and other Lophotrochozoans : Insights from the Chengjiang and Guanshan Fossil-Lagerstätten

    Author : Haizhou Wang; Lars E. Holmer; Zhifei Zhang; Michael Streng; David A.T. Harper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cambrian Explosion; Chengjiang; Guanshan; Lagerstätten; Lophotrochozoa; Brachiopoda; Earth Science with specialization in Historical Geology and Palaeontology; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Abstract : One of the great unsolved evolutionary questions concerns the origin and phylogeny of the major animal phyla that appeared in the fossil record more than 540 million years ago, during the Cambrian explosion. Although new molecular information has been very useful, we still have little understanding about the origin of most of the phyla of bilaterians living today. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adhesive and signaling mechanisms in abdominal sepsis

    Author : Su Zhang; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; abdominal sepsis; lung; infection; neutrophil; chemokines; T-cells; HMG-CoA reductase; NFAT;

    Abstract : Sepsis is a major cause of mortality in intensive care units despite decades of scientific efforts. The lung is recognized as the most sensitive and critical organ affected by the hyper-inflammatory response in septic patients. Immune cell dysfunction develops in later phases of sepsis making patients susceptible to infections. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on the Molecular Biology of the Mouse Pneumotropic Polyomavirus

    Author : Shouting Zhang; Kristina Dörries; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; murine pneumotropic virus; Kilham mouse polyomavirus; large T antigen; enhancer; regulatory region rearrangement; gene expression regulation; DNA replication; transposable elements; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The Murine Pneumotropic Virus (MPtV), in contrast to the other MurinePolyomavirus (MPyV), appears to be non-tumourigenic in its natural host. Instead, MPtV causes acute pneumonia and can serve as a model in studies of polyomavirus-induced disease. In initial experiments, MPtV large T-antigen (LT) was expressed in a heterologous system. 4. 4. T lymphocytes and cytokines in the pathogenesis of experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis

    Author : Guang-Xian Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis (EAMG), induced in different animal species and strains by immunization with nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AChR) and complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA), represents an experimental model of myasthenia gravis (MG) in humans. Both MG and EAMG are autoimmune diseases mediated by antibodies against AChR of neuromuscular junctions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dynamic regulation of DNA methylation in human T-cell biology

    Author : Antonio Lentini; Colm Nestor; Mikael Benson; Huan Zhang; Mika Gustafsson; Ian R. Adams; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : T helper cells play a central role in orchestrating immune responses in humans. Upon encountering a foreign antigen, T helper cells are activated followed by a differentiation process where the cells are specialised to help combating the infection. READ MORE
