  1. 6. Regulatory mechanisms controlling T cell activity

    Author : Anette Sundstedt; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; T cell superantigen anergy interleukin-2 transcription factor cytotoxicity; serology; Immunology; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on work studying the immunoregulatory mechanisms that govern the balance between activation and inactivation of T lymphocytes. Most of the work has been carried out in an experimental system using a T cell receptor (TCR-Vb3) transgenic mouse strain to obtain a homogenous T-cell population and utilizing the properties of bacterial superantigens to induce T cell responses and unresponsiveness in vivo. 2. 7. Modified Glycopeptides Targeting Rheumatoid Arthritis : Exploring molecular interactions in class II MHC/glycopeptide/T-cell receptor complexes

    Author : Ida E. Andersson; Jan Kihlberg; Anna Linusson Jonsson; Craig Crews; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Major histocompatibility complex; class II MHC; T-cell receptor; rheumatoid arthritis; collagen-induced arthritis; glycopeptide; amide bond isostere; comparative modeling; rational design; molecular docking; molecular dynamics simulation; statistical molecular design; Bioorganic chemistry; Bioorganisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry; Biorganic Chemistry; bioorganisk kemi; datorlingvistik; computational linguistics;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that leads to degradation of cartilage and bone mainly in peripheral joints. In collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), a mouse model for RA, activation of autoimmune CD4+ T cells depends on a molecular recognition system where T-cell receptors (TCRs) recognize a complex between the class II MHC Aq protein and CII259-273, a glycopeptide epitope from type II collagen (CII). 3. 8. Smoking and T cell co-stimulation in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Caroline Wasén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rheumatoid arthritis; CD8 T cell; programmed cell death-1; programmed cell death-1 ligand 1; smoking; microRNA;

    Abstract : In this thesis I investigated if smoking limits the co-stimulatory system of CD8+ T cells in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). I took special interest in the co-inhibitory receptor PD-1 and its ligand PD-L1. READ MORE

  4. 9. Thymic Stroma and T Cell Development. Impacts of Retinoic Acid Signaling

    Author : Kerstin Wendland; Slemhinnans immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Thymus; Thymic epithelial cells; Retinoic acid; T cell development; Stromal Cells;

    Abstract : The development of functionally competent, self-tolerant T cells in the thymus is an essential prerequisite for the formation of adaptive immune responses against foreign pathogens. Thymic epithelial cells (TECs) form specialized stromal microenvironments in the cortex (cTEC) and medulla (mTEC) of the thymus that support all stages of T cell development, from the entry of thymocyte progenitors to the exit of mature naive T cells. 5. 10. The ups and downs of T cells The role of costimulatory molecules in the modulation of T cell responses

    Author : Christina Olsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunologi; transplantation; serology; CD28; costimulation; CD152; IL-2; NF-kB; AP-1; superantigen; Immunology; T cell; serologi;

    Abstract : T cell activation requires the combination of antigen in the context of MHC and costimulatory molecules to induce a functional immune response. For our studies, we primarily utilized superantigens (SAg) that bind MHC class II molecules as first signal. READ MORE
