  1. 1. T cells in Autoimmunity: studies on murine type II collagen-induced arthritis

    Author : Alexandre Corthay; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunologi; Autoimmunity T lymphocytes collagen-induced arthritis Glycosylation TCR; transplantation; serology; Immunology; serologi; Skeleton; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi;

    Abstract : Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is a mouse model for rheumatoid arthritis, in which autoimmunity is induced by immunization with type II collagen (CII), a cartilage-specific protein. In the present work, alpha/beta T cells were shown to be required for CIA and for the production of anti-CII IgG antibodies, whereas gamma/delta T cells were neither necessary nor sufficient for development of CIA. 2. 2. Predictive Modeling of Turn-Taking in Spoken Dialogue : Computational Approaches for the Analysis of Turn-Taking in Humans and Spoken Dialogue Systems

    Author : Erik Ekstedt; Gabriel Skantze; Roger Moore; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; turn-taking; spoken dialog system; human computer interaction; Turtagning; talad dialog; människa-data interaktion; Datalogi; Computer Science; Människa-datorinteraktion; Human-computer Interaction; Speech and Music Communication; Tal- och musikkommunikation;

    Abstract : Turn-taking in spoken dialogue represents a complex cooperative process wherein participants use verbal and non-verbal cues to coordinate who speaks and who listens, to anticipate speaker transitions, and to produce backchannels (e.g., “mhm”, “uh-huh”) at the right places. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gestational Islet Autoimmunity, Infections, and Type 1 Diabetes

    Author : Maria Elfving; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gestation; Enterovirus infection; Pediatri; Pediatrics; Children; Type 1 diabetes; Islet autoantibodies;

    Abstract : The intention of this thesis was to investigate autoimmune markers for type 1 diabetes, together with signs of enterovirus infections during the pre- and perinatal period of life, and their possible association with the development of diabetes during childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. We found that: 1. READ MORE

  4. 4. Roles of protein kinase C in cell death and breast cancer

    Author : Louise Cornmark; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; protein kinase C; apoptosis; cell death; Smac; Smac mimetics; IAP; stanniocalcin-1;

    Abstract : Aberrant protein kinase C (PKC) activity and expression is implicated in different malignancies. To study the role of different PKC isoforms in breast cancer the expression of PCKα, δ and ε was evaluated in breast cancer tumors. In addition the effect of siRNA-mediated knockdown of the isoforms was studied in a global gene expression analysis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ecological and evolutionary assembly processes and metacommunity structure

    Author : Mikael Pontarp; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Community; metacommunity; phylogenetic signal; ecology; evolution; assembly process; marine bacteria; habitat filtering; competition; mathematical modeling; simulation; eco-evolutionary;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to elucidate the link between abiotic and biotic effects and biogeographical contingencies, eco-evolutionary assembly processes, and community structure in a spatially explicit metacommunity framework. To this end, we used structure analysis of naturally sampled and experimentally manipulated marine bacterial communities and mathematical eco-evolutionary modeling and simulations of metacommunity assembly.
