  1. 11. Molecular pharmacology of amiodarone

    Author : Viktor Drvota; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Amiodarone; thyroid hormone receptors; B-adrenergic receptors; AT-1 cardiomyocytes; Western blot; solution hybridization; Fura-2; Langendorff heart; mouse; guinea pig;

    Abstract : Amiodarone (Am) is a potent class III antiarrhythmic drug. Its use is limited due to serious side effects and it was therefore used only when other therapeutic interventions proved to be ineffective. READ MORE

  2. 12. Independence in activities after injury in humanitarian settings : assessment, change over time and associated factors

    Author : Bérangère Gohy; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Injury represents a significant burden in humanitarian settings, overwhelming the limited trauma care resources. Trauma care in these settings mainly focuses on saving lives and limbs, and not on recovery in daily activities. Rehabilitation, including physiotherapy, is often delayed and not systematic. 3. 13. Gene regulation by nuclear hormone receptors in vivo

    Author : Anethe Mansén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The nuclear hormone receptor superfamily contains 49 different members, including those for thyroid hormone, TR? and TR?. These receptors are ligand-modulated transcription factors that activate or repress gene activity. The TR? gene encodes two main splice variants, TR?1 and TR?2. READ MORE

  4. 14. Regulation of postnatal neurogenesis and brain angiogenesis by thyroid hormone

    Author : Jenny Liqun Zhang; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : thyroid hormone; neurogenesis; angiogenesis; SVZ OB; hippocampus; neural stem cells; endothelial cells; astrocytes;

    Abstract : Thyroid hormone (TH), which is secreted by the thyroid gland, exerts significant effects on the central nervous system (CNS), especially during development, so that delayed treatment of perinatal hypothyroidism results in severe cognitive retardation. Continuous postnatal neurogenesis occurs throughout adulthood in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricle wall and in the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the dentate gyrus (DG) of the hippocampal formation. 5. 15. Strong Cosmic Censorship and Cosmic No-Hair in spacetimes with symmetries

    Author : Katharina Maria Radermacher; Hans Ringström; James Isenberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cosmic Censorship; Cosmic No-Hair; Big Bang; symmetry; Bianchi; T2-symmetry; Gowdy; general relativity; cosmology; late time; initial time; asymptotic behaviour; perfect fluid; scalar field; Einstein equations; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three articles investigating the asymptotic behaviour of cosmological spacetimes with symmetries arising in Mathematical General Relativity.In Paper A and B, we consider spacetimes with Bianchi symmetry and where the matter model is that of a perfect fluid.
