  1. 1. Policy induced technological change : Productivity and innovation effects in biomass-using industry and energy generation

    Author : Johan Brolund; Magnus Lindmark; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis is to investigate the impact of public environmental policy on technological change in the biomass-using industry and energy generation. The thesis contains an introductory part followed by the empirical investigation which is divided into two self-contained articles. READ MORE

  2. 2. Supplier Involvement in New Product Development under Technological Uncertainty

    Author : Lisa Melander; Fredrik Tell; Thomas Johnsen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; New product development; supplier involvement; collaborative R D; technological uncertainty; supplier selection; buyer-supplier collaboration; coordination; R D; purchasing; project;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the challenges that firms are faced with when collaborating with suppliers in new product development (NPD) projects under technological uncertainty. A critical observation that is made in this context is that technologies are evolving faster, making products more complex. At the same time, firms become more specialized. READ MORE

  3. 3. Essays on the Transmission of Human Capital and the Impact of Technological Change

    Author : Adrian Adermon; Mikael Lindahl; Magnus Gustavsson; Markus Jäntti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; education; intergenerational mobility; sibling correlations; natural experiment; copyright; music; movies; file sharing; piracy; inequality; job polarization; task-biased technological change; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : Essay 1: If grandparents have an independent impact on their grandchildren's schooling, intergenerational correlations estimated using two generations will underestimate the true level of intergenerational persistence in education. Recent research has found such multi-generational effects, but there is still no consensus on whether these estimates are due to a direct impact of grandparents on their grandchildren, or if they arise because of measurement error or model misspecification. 4. 4. Life cycle navigation through future energy carriers and propulsion options for the energy transition in shipping

    Author : Fayas Malik Kanchiralla; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; environmental impact; life cycle costing; battery electric; fuel cells; electro-fuel; technical feasibility; economic impact; hydrogen; life cycle assessment; carbon capture; marine fuel; engines; ammonia; carbon abatement cost; shipping; methanol;

    Abstract : The shipping industry's heavy reliance on fossil fuels has a detrimental effect on the global climate, human health, and the natural environment. The shipping sector now relies on the use of cheap and energy-dense heavy fuel oil and is perceived as ‘difficult-to-decarbonize’. READ MORE

  5. 5. Environmental Assessment of Emerging Technologies: The Case of Alternative Transport Fuels

    Author : Karl Jonasson; Karl Hillman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
