  1. 11. Pyrolysis and Detoxification of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) for Feedstock Recycling

    Author : Panagiotis Evangelopoulos; Weihong Yang; Efthymios Kantarelis; Tobias Richards; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pyrolysis; WEEE; solvent extraction; brominated flame retardants; Tetrabromobisphenol A; Auger reactor; Πυρόλυση; ΑΗΗΕ; εκχύλιση με διαλύτη; βρωμιωμένα επιβραδυντικά φλόγας; Τετραβρωμοδιφαινόλη Α; Pyrolys; WEEE; lösningsmedelsextraktion; bromerade flamskyddsmedel; tetrabrombisfenol A; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : The trends in waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) generation shows that their volume constantly increases, while the current waste management technologies have proven to be insufficient in order to meet the strict criteria and the new legislations of the European Union. Pyrolysis and thermal treatment in general could be a valuable solution for closing the loop of materials and could contribute to the energy demands of modern society. READ MORE

  2. 12. Alloys in Contact with Molten Salts for Thermal Storage Applications

    Author : Esraa Hamdy Mohamedin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Phase transition; Molten salts; High-temperature corrosion; Alumina-forming alloys; Carburisation; Thermal energy storage TES ; Laves phase; Concentrated solar power CSP ;

    Abstract : The combination of a concentrated solar power (CSP) plant and a thermal energy storage (TES) system is a promising technology for power generation, in that it overcomes the challenges commonly faced by renewable energy systems, such as intermittency, dispatchability, and the gap between the energy supply and energy demand. The third generation (Gen3) CSP plants are designed to increase plant efficiency by using supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) instead of steam for the Brayton cycle gas turbines, requiring a minimum operating temperature of 750°C for the TES materials. 3. 13. Bed filters for phosphorus removal in on-site wastewater treatment : Removal mechanisms and sustainability

    Author : David Eveborn; Jon Petter Gustafsson; Gunno Renman; Erik Kärrman; Lars Lövgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; On-site wastewater treatment; Eutrophication; Environmental impact assessment; Phosphorus removal mechanisms; Soil infiltration; Reactive bed filters; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik; Soil chemistry; Markkemi;

    Abstract : For many surface waters, phosphorus (P) leaching is a serious problem that should be minimized to prevent eutrophication. In Sweden there is a demand for physical and technical development of high-performance P removal techniques to reduce phosphorus leaching from on-site wastewater treatment systems to the Baltic Sea. Abstract : The topic of this thesis is carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage (CCS), which is a technology that is currently being promoted by industries, scientists and governments, among others, in order to mitigate climate change despite a continued use of fossil fuels. Because of the complex nature of CCS and the risks it entails, it is controversial. READ MORE
