  1. 11. The role of transforming growth factor‐β signaling and hypoxia‐inducible factors in renal cell carcinoma

    Author : Pramod Mallikarjuna; Maréne Landström; Börje Ljungberg; Raviprakash Tumkur Sitaram; Anders Bjartell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-β; Hypoxia; Renal cell carcinoma; ccRCC; non-ccRCC; transforming growth factor-β; ALK5; pVHL; HIF-α; SNAIL1; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the cancer of the kidneys; about 1100 patients with RCC are diagnosed in Sweden each year. RCC can be classified into several subtypes, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is most common accounting to about 70% of all RCCs, and also the most lethal; papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) accounts to about 10%‐15%, while chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC) accounts to about 5% of all RCCs. 2. 12. Epigenetic Regulation of Replication Timing and Signal Transduction

    Author : Rosita Bergström; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Rolf Ohlsson; Alain Mauviel; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Upon fertilization the paternal and maternal genomes unite, giving rise to the embryo, with its unique genetic code. All cells in the human body are derived from the fertilized ovum: hence they all contain (with a few exceptions) the same genetic composition. READ MORE

    Abstract : A comprehensive understanding of how the body and all its components function is essential when this knowledge is exploited for medical purposes. The achievements in biological and medical research during last decades has provided us with the complete human genome and identified signaling pathways that governs the cellular processes that facilitates the development and maintenance of higher order organisms. 4. 14. Exploring the potential of antiangiogenic strategies targeting the TGF-β family in the tumor microenvironment

    Author : Sara Cunha; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Members of the transforming growth factor (TGF)-β family exert their effect on virtually all cell types in the body, producing diverse and complex cellular responses. Additionally, TGF-β signaling is deregulated and hyperactive in many malignant conditions, making it an appealing target in the combat of cancer disease. READ MORE

  5. 15. Cell signaling: a systems approach

    Author : Pontus Melke; Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : All higher functions of the cell are dependent on cell signaling. It is the way of the cell to obtain information about the world surrounding it. By getting information on e.g. READ MORE
