21. Activity and Regulation of Telomerase in Malignant Cells
Abstract : An important step in tumorgenesis is the acquisition of cellular immortality. Tumor cells accomplish this by activating the enzyme telomerase, and thereby avoiding replicative senescence. The aim of this thesis was to study the activity and regulation of telomerase in a panel of malignant cell types. READ MORE

22. The role of transforming growth factor‐β signaling and hypoxia‐inducible factors in renal cell carcinoma
Abstract : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the cancer of the kidneys; about 1100 patients with RCC are diagnosed in Sweden each year. RCC can be classified into several subtypes, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is most common accounting to about 70% of all RCCs, and also the most lethal; papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) accounts to about 10%‐15%, while chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC) accounts to about 5% of all RCCs. 23. Mechanisms for TGF-β-Mediated Regulation of the Actin Filament System and Apoptosis
Abstract : Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is a member of a large superfamily of cytokines which participate in many different types of cellular processes, such as growth inhibition, cell migration, differentiation, cell adhesion, wound healing and immunosuppression. Alterations of TGF-β superfamily signalling results in several different disorders, including bone disease, vascular disease and cancer. READ MORE

24. Exploring the potential of antiangiogenic strategies targeting the TGF-β family in the tumor microenvironment
Abstract : Members of the transforming growth factor (TGF)-β family exert their effect on virtually all cell types in the body, producing diverse and complex cellular responses. Additionally, TGF-β signaling is deregulated and hyperactive in many malignant conditions, making it an appealing target in the combat of cancer disease. READ MORE

25. Application of Proximity Ligation Assay for Multidirectional Studies on Transforming Growth Factor-β Pathway
Abstract : A comprehensive understanding of how the body and all its components function is essential when this knowledge is exploited for medical purposes. The achievements in biological and medical research during last decades has provided us with the complete human genome and identified signaling pathways that governs the cellular processes that facilitates the development and maintenance of higher order organisms.
