  1. 1. Genital tract CD4+ T cells for vaccination and protection against Chlamydia trachomatis

    Author : Ellen Marks; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Chlamydia; T cell differentiation; genital tract; vaccination; costimulation; Th1; Th2; Th17; Tregs;

    Abstract : Vaccination strategies for protection against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are lacking due to an incomplete understanding of genital tract T cell responses. This thesis dissects the generation of T helper subsets, including the recently discovered Th17 subset, during genital tract infection with a common sexually transmitted pathogen, Chlamydia trachomatis, and addresses vaccine requirements for the generation of genital tract CD4+ T cell immunity. 2. 2. Humoral and cellular immune response to Helicobacter pylori in Bangladeshi children and adults that may be related to protection

    Author : Taufiqur Rahman Bhuiyan; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Helicobacter pylori; Adults; Children; Birth cohort; Maternal antibodies; Serology; Th17; T cell; B cell; Developing country;

    Abstract : Helicobacter pylori (Hp) colonizes the human gastric and duodenal mucosa and the infection may cause peptic ulcers and gastric adenocarcinoma. Half of the world’s population is infected with Hp with the highest prevalence in developing countries. READ MORE

  3. 3. Lung-resident, M2e-specific CD4 T cells critically protect during influenza infection

    Author : Ajibola Omokanye; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; influenza; vaccine; universal; heterosubtypic; M2e; CD4; Th17; ThCTL; tissue-resident; cytotoxic; single-cell RNA-seq;

    Abstract : Memory CD4+ T cells are a critical component of the adaptive immune response to fight infection. However, current vaccines against influenza only focus on the other arm of adaptive immunity—triggering B cells to produce antibodies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanistic studies of the adjuvant effects of CTA1-DD and the native cholera toxin: Impact of cell targeting and tissue localization

    Author : Johan Mattsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vaccines; adjuvants; cholera toxin; germinal center; CTA1-DD; follicular dendritic cells; denritic cells; Th1; Th2; Th17; complement;

    Abstract : Vaccines are the most effective means of preventing infectious diseases and improving global health. However, few vaccines have successfully been developed for protection at mucosal surfaces where most pathogens gain access. READ MORE

  5. 5. Regulation of gut IgA induction by helper T cells

    Author : Inta Gribonika; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mucosal immunology; secretory IgA; T regulatory cells; T follicular helper cells; Th17 cells; Peyer s patches; IgA class-switch recombination; germinal centers;

    Abstract : The gut is the largest lymphoid organ in the body. Due to intense and constant exposure to the outside world, it also functions as the most important portal of entry for many pathogens. READ MORE
