  1. 16. Developments in Ground Heat Storage Modeling

    Author : Alberto Lazzarotto; Björk Folke; Michel Bernier; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Borehole fields; g-functions; network; inclined; integrated design; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Ground heat storage systems can play an important role for the reduction of green house gases emissions by increasing the exploitation of renewable energy sources and “waste heat” with a consequent diminution of the use of fossil fuels.A ground heat storage consists in an array of vertical boreholes placed in such a way that promotes the mutual thermal interaction between the ground heat exchangers creating the necessary conditions required to effectively store and retrieve heat. 2. 17. Potential Use of Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage System in Arid Regions

    Author : Qais Al-Madhlom; Jan Laue; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sabbar Abdullah Saleh; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aquifer thermal energy storage system; ATES; site selection; seepage velocity; aquifer vulnerability; DRASTIC; arid regions; ArcMap GIS; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : After the Oil Crises in 1973, which meant higher energy costs, the world started to look for other sources of energy. This led to the development of renewable energy techniques. Because of the intermittent nature of renewable energy, storage systems were also developed. READ MORE

  3. 18. Integrating Latent Heat Storage into Residential Heating Systems : A study from material and component characterization to system analysis

    Author : Tianhao Xu; Samer Sawalha; Björn Palm; Justin NingWei Chiu; Tianshu GE; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phase change material; thermal energy storage; heat pump; load shifting; space heating; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) systems can be coupled with heat pump (HP) systems to realize heat load shifting on demand side. With phase change material (PCM), well designed LHTES components exhibit high storage energy density and thus have large potentials to be integrated in residence where a compact energy storage solution is needed. 4. 19. Energy efficiency of new residential buildings in sweden : Design and Modelling Aspects

    Author : Itai Danielski; Inga Carlman; Thomas Olofsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Energy security and climate change mitigation have been discussed in Sweden since the oil crisis in the 1970s. Sweden has since then increased its share of renewable energy resources to reach the highest level among the EU member states, but is still among the countries with the highest primary energy use per capita. 5. 20. Winter Road Maintenance using Renewable Thermal Energy

    Author : Josef Johnsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydronic pavements; borehole thermal energy storage; winter road maintenance; BRIDGESIM; numerical simulations; BTES; renewable energy;

    Abstract : Winter road maintenance is costly but it is inevitable since it is necessary to keep roads accessible and safe during winter. Current winter road maintenance methods use annually 600 000 tons of salt, in the Nordic countries. The salt ends up in the environment along the roads and results in environmental challenges.
