  1. 1. Wind power in thermal power systems

    Author : Lisa Göransson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; integration; wind power; variation moderator; PHEV; storage;

    Abstract : AbstractWind power is a key technology in the effort to transform the power system in order to reduce its climate impact. However, the ability of wind power to reduce CO2-emissions depends on the properties of the power system. READ MORE

  2. 2. Steam Turbine Optimisation for Solar Thermal Power Plant Operation

    Author : James Spelling; Andrew Martin; Magnus Genrup; KTH; []
    Keywords : solar thermal power; steam-turbine; start-up; cool-down; dispatchability increase; koncentrerad solenergi; ångturbin; uppstart; nedkylning; ökad flexibilitet;

    Abstract : The provision of a sustainable energy supply is one of the most important issues facing humanity at the current time, given the strong dependence of social and economic prosperity on the availability of affordable energy and the growing environmental concerns about its production. Solar thermal power has established itself as a viable source of renewable power, capable of generating electricity at some of the most economically attractive rates. READ MORE

  3. 3. High temperature corrosion in a biomass-fired power boiler : Reducing furnace wall corrosion in a waste wood-fired power plant with advanced steam data

    Author : Yousef Alipour; Pamela Henderson; Peter Szalalos; Christofer Leygraf; Jan Froitzheim; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High temperature corrosion; Waterwalls; Power plant corrosion; NOx reducing enviroments; Biomass; Waste wood; Thermodynamic calculation modelling; corrosion-resistance alloy; Furnace wall corrosion; Högtemperaturekorrosion; Eldstadsväggar; kraftverks korrosion; låg Nox mijöer; biomassa; returträ; Termodynamisk modellering; korrosionsbeständighet legering; eldstadskorrosion;

    Abstract : The use of waste (or recycled) wood as a fuel in heat and power stations is becoming more widespread in Sweden (and Europe), because it is CO2 neutral with a lower cost than forest fuel. However, it is a heterogeneous fuel with a high amount of chlorine, alkali and heavy metals which causes more corrosion than fossil fuels or forest fuel. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modern Thermal Power Plants - Aspects on Modelling and Evaluation

    Author : Klas Jonshagen; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; T-Q diagram; Combined cycle; heat- and mass-balance modelling; carbon capture; CO2;

    Abstract : The European Union (EU) has laid down very clear objectives for the reduction of greenhouse gases in the hope that it will prevent or mitigate climate change. Political incentives are used to make the power industry adopt changes in order to reach these EU targets. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Analysis of Thermal Power Stations and their Interaction with the Power System using Simulator Test Methods

    Author : Jan Andersson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : thermal power station; network simulator; frequency control; island operation; turbine model;

    Abstract : This thesis describes a new method of testing power stations with regard to their frequency control behaviour and analyses results obtained using this new method. The test concept is based on that the power station unit to be tested remains synchronized onto its normal strong network, whereas the frequency control behaviour is set up to be that of the conditions if the unit was working on a much smaller network, using a computer based simulator system and feeding simulated control signals to the input of the units frequency control system.
