1. NbN and NbTiN Hot Electron Bolometer THz Mixers
Abstract : The thesis reports the development of Hot Electron Bolometer (HEB) mixers for radio astronomy heterodyne receivers in THz frequency range. Part of this work is the fabrication of HEB devices, which are based on NbN or NbTiN superconducting thin films (≤5 nm). They are integrated with wideband spiral or double-slot planar antennas. 2. MgB2 hot-electron bolometer mixers for sub-mm wave astronomy
Abstract : Spectroscopy and photometry in the terahertz (THz) range of remote space objects allows for a study of their chemical composition, because this range covers rotational lines from simple molecules and electron transition lines from atoms and ions. Due to high spectral resolution, THz heterodyne receivers al- low for studying dynamical properties of space objects manifested in doppler-shifted emission lines. READ MORE

3. Molecular Doping of Epigraphene for Device Applications
Abstract : Epitaxial graphene grown on silicon carbide, or epigraphene, offers in principle a suitable platform for electronic applications of graphene which require scalable, reproducible, and high-quality material. However, one of the main drawbacks of epigraphene lies in the difficulty in controlling its carrier density, which hinders its usefulness in future applications. READ MORE

4. Graphene FET terahertz detectors on flexible substrates
Abstract : Terahertz (THz) science and technology have developed rapidly over the past decades, extending the THz application areas from spectroscopy and earth and space sciences to communications, biomedicine and security sensing. Many of these emerging applications require shape-conforming, light-weight and low-cost detectors rather than existing solid-state detection technology. READ MORE

5. Characterisation and modelling of graphene FET detectors for flexible terahertz electronics
Abstract : Low-cost electronics for future high-speed wireless communication and non-invasive inspection at terahertz frequencies require new materials with advanced mechanical and electronic properties. Graphene, with its unique combination of flexibility and high carrier velocity, can provide new opportunities for terahertz electronics. READ MORE
