  1. 1. Resonant states in modulation-doped heterostructures

    Author : Anders Blom; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; generation-recombination noise; THz laser; classical mechanics; relativity; quantum mechanics; statistisk fysik; gravitation; relativitet; kvantmekanik; klassisk mekanik; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; thermodynamics; termodynamik; statistical physics; donor energies; Si SiGe quantum well; central-cell effect; impurity absorption; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Blom; Resonant states; impurity levels;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the properties of donors placed inside or outside a heterostructure quantum well (QW). The focus of the investigation has been on the formation of resonant states, which are a hybridization of the discrete localized impurity levels and the continuous two-dimensional QW subbands. 2. 2. Characterization of (Ba,Sr)TiO3 thin films for multiplier applications

    Author : Pär Rundqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BSTO; THz; triplers; powerhandling capability; multilayer structures; frequency multipliers; Ferroelectric; BST; losses; Varactor; STO;

    Abstract : (Ba,Sr)TiO3 (BSTO) and SrTiO3 (STO) parallel plate ferroelectric varactors are investigated for microwave multiplier applications.STO and BSTO exhibit low losses, high permittivity and largetunability of both permittivity and losses. All films are deposited using Pulsed Laser Deposition, magnetron sputtering and E-beam evaporation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Spectral control of lasers and optical parametric oscillators with volume Bragg gratings

    Author : Björn Jacobsson; Fredrik Laurell; Uwe Morgner; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; volume Bragg gratings; single-longitudinal-mode laser; laser tuning; erbium; neodymium; ytterbium; nonlinear optics; optical parametric oscillator; KTP; tunable optical parametric oscillator; narrowband optical parametric oscillator; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : I den här avhandlingen visas hur lasrar och optiska parametriska oscillatorer (OPO:er) kan styras spektralt med hjälp av volymbraggitter. Volymbraggitter utgörs av ett periodiskt varierande brytningsindex som skrivits i ett fototermorefraktivt glas. READ MORE

  4. 4. Towards single Ce ion detection in a bulk crystal for the development of a single-ion qubit readout scheme

    Author : Ying Yan; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysicumarkivet A:2013:Yan; Ultra-violet laser spectroscopy; Single ion detection; Rare-earth-ion-doped crystals; Quantum computing; Laser stabilisation;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis was concerned with investigating the relevant spectroscopic properties of Ce ions randomly doped in an Y2SiO5 crystal at low temperatures (around 4 K), in order to develop a technique and an experimental set-up to detect the fluorescence photons emitted by a single Ce ion. The aim of the work was to determine whether a single Ce ion (referred to as the readout ion) can be used as a local probe to sense the quantum state of a neighbouring single-ion qubit via a state-selective interaction between the readout and qubit ion. Abstract : We live in a time of rapid scientific and technological advancement. People liv- ing 100 years ago could never dream of inventions like those having completely changed our way of life, and our perception of the world; computers, mobile phones, the Internet, space travel, unraveling the mysteries of the early universe and distant galaxies, and our insight into the microscopic world of quantum phe- nomena.
