  1. 1. Epigenetics of paediatric glioma stem cells; focusing on exosomes, miRNAs and DNA methylation

    Author : Ágota Tüzesi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epigenetics; microRNA; DNA methylation; exosomes; glioblastoma; paediatric; glioma stem cells; neural stem cells; TMZ response;

    Abstract : Tumours in the central nervous system are accountable for the majority of cancer-related deaths in children. Glioblastoma multiforme, one of the deadliest of the central nervous system tumours, is partly driven by glioma stem cells. The generation and maintenance of these cells is orchestrated by complex genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. READ MORE

  2. 2. Combined chemotherapy and immunotherapy against experimental malignant brain tumors

    Author : Sara Fritzell; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cisplatin; Glioma; GM-CSF; IFN-gamma; IL-7; Immunotherapy; Intratumoral chemotherapy; Temozolomide;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and aggressive primary malignant brain tumor in adults. Despite standard treatment including surgery, radiotherapy and temozolomide (TMZ)-based chemotherapy, the prognosis for GBM patients is dismal, and there is a need for novel treatments. READ MORE

  3. 3. Unravelling molecular mechanisms underlying therapy resistance in cutaneous melanoma

    Author : Alireza Azimi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : For many years the standard treatment of advanced metastatic melanoma with chemotherapeutic agents, including temozolomide (TMZ) and dacarbazine (DTIC), has been unsuccessful. The paradigm shift in melanoma treatment occurred with the identification of mutations in the BRAF gene that leads to a constitutively active BRAF V600E protein. READ MORE

  4. 4. Immunological aspects of intratumoral chemotherapy and immunotherapy in malignant brain tumors

    Author : Julio Enriquez Perez; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma GBM ; Immunotherapy; Mouse glioma; Convection-enhanced delivery; Intratumoral chemotherapy; Glioblastom; Immuneterapi;

    Abstract : Advances in surgery, chemo- and radiotherapy have only modestly improved survival rates of malignant brain tumor patients during the last decades. Emerging evidence suggests that an efficient treatment of malignant brain tumors will likely require the management of multiple aspects of tumor pathobiology in order to manipulate features as tumor heterogeneity and tumor immunosuppression. 5. 5. Intratumoral CD40 stimulating therapy in patients with advanced cancer

    Author : Sandra Irenaeus; Gustav Ullenhag; Angelica S. Loskog; Poulam Patel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CD40; CD40L; immunotherapy; early clinical studies; advanced cancer; intratumoral administration; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : CD40-CD40L interaction activates DCs to become highly efficient APCs and skews the adaptive immune response towards a Th I phenotype driving cytotoxic T cells, M1 macrophages and natural killer cells. Furthermore, engagement of CD40L to CD40 positive cancer cells can have direct anti-proliferative effects, induce apoptosis and increase expression of MHC and other co-stimulatory molecules, thereby enhancing cancer cell recognition.
