  1. 1. The involvement of the TNF-alpha system in skeletal muscle in response to marked overuse

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Lina Renström; Sture Forsgren; Per Stål; Håkan Alfredson; Eva Ekblad; [2017]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TNF-alpha; TNFR1; TNFR2; muscle damage; myositis; peritendinous tissue; tendinopathy;

    Abstract : Painful conditions having the origin within the musculoskeletal system is a common cause for people to seek medical care. Between 20-40% of all visits to the primal care in Sweden are coupled to pain from the musculoskeletal system. Muscle pain and impaired muscle function can be caused by muscles being repetitively overused and/or via heavy load. READ MORE

  2. 2. Regulation of TNF-alpha : Implications for health and disease

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medicine

    Author : Tiina Skoog; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adhesion molecules; adipocyte; atherosclerosis; DNase I HS site; EMSA; IMT; polymorphism; TNF-alpha;

    Abstract : Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) is a proinflammatory cytokine, which is implicated in some metabolic disorders and may play a role in the development of cardiovascular disease. When healthy 50-year-old men were studied, the plasma TNF-alpha concentration was associated with systolic and diastolic blood pressure, degree of alimentary lipaemia, plasma VLDL triglyceride and LDL cholesterol concentrations, peak LDL particle size and all measured cell adhesion molecules. 3. 3. Cytokine induced airway hyperreactivity characterized in an in-vitro model of asthma

    University dissertation from Laboratory of Clinical and Experimental Allergy Research, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Institute of Clinical Science, Malmö University Hospital, Lund University, Sweden

    Author : Yaping Zhang; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; MAPK; TNF-alpha; 5-HT; Respiratory system; Andningsorganen; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; interleukin-1beta; hyperresponsiveness; endothelin-1; airway; bradykinin; toxikologi; farmaci;

    Abstract : Asthma is a chronic disorder of the lower airways, characterized by inflammation and hyperreactivity. Pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) are known to play important roles in the pathogenesis, but our knowledge how these cytokines contribute to the development of airway hyperreactivity is limited. 4. 4. Molecular targets for glucocorticoids in macrophages: cytosolic phospholipase A2 and cytokine formation

    University dissertation from Center for Molecular Biomedicine, Lund University

    Author : Karin Gewert; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; signal transduction; dexamethasone; cytosolic phospholipase A2; glucocorticoids; macrophages; protein kinase C; mitogen-activated protein kinases; TNF-alpha; IL-1beta; protein phosphatases; okadaic acid; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this investigation has been to study mechanisms by which glucocorticoids inhibit inflammatory processes in vitro. Type IV cytosolic 85 kDa phospholipase A2 (cPLA2) is an important modulator of inflammatory responses that is present in macrophages as well as in other cell types. READ MORE

  5. 5. On the role of mast cells in chemokine-induced leukocyte recruitment

    University dissertation from Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Author : Yusheng Wang; [2006]
