  1. 1. Identification and imaging of lipids in tissues using TOF-SIMS

    Author : Ylva Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2008]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mass spectrometry; lipids; fatty acids; diacylglycerols; triacylglycerols; TOF-SIMS; adipose tissue; aortic wall; skeletal muscle; obesity; principal component analysis;

    Abstract : Introduction: Normal lipid metabolism in the adipose tissue, skeletal muscle and aortic wall is important for the physiological function of these tissues. Dyslipidemia that is often associated with intake of high energy diet and sedentary lifestyles can lead to the development of insulin resistance and cardiovascular diseases. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. 3. 3. Selectivity in NMR and LC-MS Metabolomics The Importance of Sample Preparation and Separation, and how to Measure Selectivity in LC-MS Metabolomics

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Albert Elmsjö; Curt Pettersson; Torbjörn Arvidsson; Thomas Moritz; [2017]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolomics; NMR; LC-MS; HILIC; UHPLC; Q-ToF; selectivity; co-feature ratio; method evaluation; data evaluation; Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Analytisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : Until now, most metabolomics protocols have been optimized towards high sample throughput and high metabolite coverage, parameters considered to be highly important for identifying influenced biological pathways and to generate as many potential biomarkers as possible. From an analytical point of view this can be troubling, as neither sample throughput nor the number of signals relates to actual quality of the detected signals/metabolites. READ MORE

  4. 4. Towards an understanding of surface hydrophobization of paper - Exploring the effect of polymer nanoparticles, starch, ionic strength and process parameters

    University dissertation from Gothenburg : Chalmers tekniska högskola

    Author : Frida Iselau; [2017]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; starch; ionic strength; paper hydrophobization; nanoparticles; penetration.; kinetics; charge ratio; temperature; aggregation; Surface sizing;

    Abstract : Paper materials are cost effective and lightweight, they can easily be recycled and their use as an alternative to plastics is advantageous from an environmental and sustainability perspective. However, competing with plastics for packaging applications is a challenge for cellulosic products. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fabrication of new silica nano structures and development of new concepts for MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Kemi

    Author : Andreas Woldegiorgis; Johan Roeraade; Peter J. Schoenmakers; [2004]

    Abstract : A technique to alter the morphology of the inner surface of fused silica capillaries has been developed. The internal surface area is enlarged by means of nano-wires of silica, which are grown from the capillary walls. READ MORE
