  1. 1. Thyroid hormone receptor expression in cardiovascular disease and pharmacology

    Author : Shiva Shahrara; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : TR mRNA; amiodarone; propranolol; heart rate; Quantitative RT-PCR; Western blot; Northern blot; mRNA and protein distribution; chronic valvular disease; Mated cardiomyopathy; AT- I cardiomyocytes; mouse myocardium;

    Abstract : The heart is a major target organ for thyroid hormone actions. Thyroid hormone exerts effects on the myocardium, which are mediated by specific nuclear receptors. The thyroid hormone receptors (TR) are members of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adaptability of skeletal muscle to hormone treatment in relation to gender and aging

    Author : Fushun Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : skinned muscle fiber; gender; aging; steroid hormone; V0 electrophoresis; MyHC; MyLC; enzymehistochemistry; hyperthyroid rat; thyroid hormone receptor TR deficient TR[alpha]1 - -; TR[beta]- -; and TR[alpha]1- -[beta]- - mice;

    Abstract : The aims of this study were to investigate the expression of myosin isoforms, muscle contractility at the cell level, and changes in these parameters in response to altered hormonal status in aging male and female rodents. In addition, by using mice lacking thyroid hormone receptors (TR[alpha]1 or TR[beta] or TR[alpha]1/[beta]) we tried to improve our understanding of the mechanisms by which thyroid hormone regulates the expression of specific MyHC isoforms via these different nuclear receptors. 3. 3. Selenium Compounds in Milk. Studies of Selenoproteins, Selenium Enrichment and Oxidative Stability of Food

    Author : Tien Hoac; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; Copper; Zinc; Oxidative stability; Thioredoxin reductase; Glutathione peroxidase; Selenoproteins; Milk; Selenium supplementation; Technological sciences; Teknik;

    Abstract : Selenium is an essential nutrient and in animals and humans it can either be specifically incorporated into proteins as selenocysteine or randomly as selenomethionine. It can also occur as low-molecular-weight compounds and the form of selenium in foods may also influence food quality. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulation of gene transcription by the thyroid hormone receptors

    Author : Maria Nygård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Thyroid hormone receptors; T3; cell differentiation; gene regulation; E2F-1; Necdin; TRH; nTRE; RXR; NCoR; XAP-2;

    Abstract : Thyroid hormone (TH) has important effects on postnatal development as well as on adult metabolic homeostasis. TH meditates its effects through different isoforms of the thyroid hormone receptors (TRs) encoded by the TRalpha and TRbeta genes, respectively. TRs belong to the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily. READ MORE

  5. 5. Endometrial, embryonic and ovarian aspects of human implantation

    Author : Lusine Aghajanova; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The general aim of the studies was to add more understanding to the mechanism of human embryo implantation, which will allow us to improve pregnancy rates in assisted reproduction. The simultaneous positive spatial and temporal expression of pinopodes with LIF, LIFR and HBEGF proteins in endometrial samples from healthy women was found. READ MORE
