17. Liquid Membrane Techniques for Trace Metal Analysis and Speciation in Environmental and Biological Matrices
Abstract : In this thesis, liquid-membrane-based methods for the analysis of trace metal species in samples of environmental and biological origin were developed. By incorporating extracting reagents in the membrane liquid, trace metal ions were selectively separated from humic-rich natural waters and urine samples, prior to their determination using various instrumental techniques. 18. The Chevreton tensor and its trace
Abstract : In this thesis we investigate the Chevreton tensor in Einstein-Maxwell theory. It was introduced in 1964 as the counterpart, for electromagnetic fields, of the well-known Bel-Robinson tensor of the gravitational field. We prove that, in the absence of electromagnetic sources, this tensor is completely symmetric. READ MORE

19. Landfills and glass dumpsites as future bank accounts of resources : waste characterization and trace elements extraction
Abstract : Environmental pollution and health threats as well as scarcity of raw materials, water, food and energy are among the main challenges our world are now facing. Simultaneously, landfills and open dumpsites still are the dominant global waste disposal option even with their long term environmental impacts in case of greenhouse gases and contaminated leachates. 20. Laser-based absorption spectrometry : development of NICE-OHMS towards ultra-sensitive trace species detection
Abstract : Laser-based absorption spectroscopy (AS) is a powerful technique for qualitative and quantitative studies of atoms and molecules. An important field of use of AS is the detection of species in trace concentrations, which has applications not only in physics and chemistry but also in biology and medicine, encompassing environmental monitoring, regulation of industrial processes and breath analysis.
