  1. 6. Cost-effective maintenance of railway track geometry : a shift from safety limits to maintenance limits

    Author : Iman Arasteh Khouy; Peter Veit; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Drift och underhållsteknik; Operation and Maintenance Engineering;

    Abstract : Railway infrastructure is a complex system which comprises different subsystems. Long life span is one of the important aspects of this prime mode of transport. However, the useful life of its assets is highly dependent on the maintenance and renewal strategy used during the assets’ life cycle. READ MORE

  2. 7. Vehicle Dynamics Control for Active Safety Functions using Electrified Drivelines

    Author : Adithya Arikere; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; driver assistance systems; intersection accidents; torque vectoring; optimal control; rear- end collisions; speed control; active safety; vehicle dynamics; electrified drivetrain; obstacle avoidance with oncoming traffic;

    Abstract : Studies have shown that even considering pledges and commitments made by various governments and organisations, the growth in electrified vehicle sales is likely to be insufficient to reduce CO2 emissions for mitigating global warming. Some form of added incentive is needed that can help drive electrified vehicle sales in the open market. READ MORE

  3. 8. Vehicle Dynamics Control after Impacts in Multiple-Event Accidents

    Author : Derong Yang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Accidents statistics show that multiple-event accidents (MEAs) represent a considerable and increasing proportion of all vehicle traffic accidents. MEAs are characterized by having at least one vehicle subjected to more than one harmful event. MEAs now comprise approximately 25% of all passenger vehicle accidents. READ MORE

  4. 9. Shape Based Recognition – Cognitive Vision Systems in Traffic Safety Applications

    Author : Fredrik Larsson; Michael Felsberg; Per-Erik Forssén; Ales Leonardis; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Traffic accidents are globally the number one cause of death for people 15-29 years old and is among the top three causes for all age groups 5-44 years. Much of the work within this thesis has been carried out in projects aiming for (cognitive) driver assistance systems and hopefully represents a step towards improving traffic safety. READ MORE

  5. 10. Economic evaluation, value of life, stated preference methodology and determinants of risks

    Author : Björn Sund; Lars Hultkrantz; Ulf Persson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cost-benefit analysis; value of a statistical life; contingent valuation; cardiac arrest; defibrillation; calibration; sensitivity to scope; risk communication; response times; incident experience; risk perception.; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : The first paper examines the value of a statistical life (VSL) for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) victims. We found VSL values to be higher for OHCA victims than for people who die in road traffic accidents and a lower-bound estimate of VSL for OHCA would be in the range of 20 to 30 million Swedish crowns (SEK).
