6. The Fate of Electronically Excited States : Ultrafast Electron and Energy Transfer in Solvated Donor-Acceptor Systems
Abstract : Processes where a molecule absorbs visible light and then disposes of the excess energy via electron/energy transfer reactions have an important role both in nature (e.g. in photosynthesis) and in many technical applications (e.g. READ MORE

8. Spin-Orbit and Spin-Spin Coupling in the Triplet State
Abstract : The underlying theory of “Spin” of an electron and its associated inter-actions causing internal fields and spectral shift to bulk-magnetism iswell established now. Our understanding of spin properties is significant andmore useful than ever before. READ MORE

9. A multi-scale approach for predicting the fire response of building barriers
Abstract : Building barriers are compartmentation elements in buildings that limit the passage of fire and smoke to adjacent spaces. They are key elements in the overall response of a building in a fire. The adequate fire response of building barriers is usually assessed by the fulfilment of standardized resistance to fire tests. 10. Regulation of NMDA receptor properties by amino acids and cations : a biochemical and electrophysiological study
Abstract : NMDA receptors are glutamate-regulated ion channels that are permeable to Ca2+, Na+ and K+ and are sensitive to voltage-dependent Mg2+-block. To investigate the modulatory effects of amino acids and cations on NMDA receptors and the possible regional differences in the pharmacology of NMDA receptors, I used mainly two techniques in this thesis: electrophysiological analysis of expressed NMDA receptors in Xenopusoocytes and biochemical receptor binding using [3H]MK-801 in membrane preparations from the rat cerebral cortex and spinal cord.
