  1. 1. Dendritic and axonal ion channels supporting neuronal integration : From pyramidal neurons to peripheral nociceptors

    Author : Marcus Petersson; Erik Fransén; Theodore Cummins; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ion channels; computational modeling; simulations; dendrites; axons; TRP; hippocampus; C-fiber nociceptors; pain;

    Abstract : The nervous system, including the brain, is a complex network with billions of complex neurons. Ion channels mediate the electrical signals that neurons use to integrate input and produce appropriate output, and could thus be thought of as key instruments in the neuronal orchestra. READ MORE

  2. 2. Distribution and function of TRP ion channels in primary sensory neurons

    Author : Helena Sturesson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; histokemi; cytokemi; vävnadskultur; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; Skin; Immunohistochemistry; Cannabinoid receptor 1 CB1 ; Pain; Primary sensory neurons; TRP ion channels; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Histologi;

    Abstract : It is frequently argued that cannabinoids exert part of their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects via activation of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor located on TRPV1-expressing primary sensory nerve fibres in peripheral tissues. However, we find no evidence of CB1 receptor immunoreactivity on nerve fibres in rat or mouse hindpaw skin and mesenteric artery. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ion channels and electrical activity in vascular smooth muscle: Effects of calcium store depletion, cholesterol and cholesterol-lowering drugs

    Author : Andreas Bergdahl; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; statins; endothelin; cholesterol; caveolae; smooth muscle; TRP; Ca2 channels; SOC;

    Abstract : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in the vessel wall contract to regulate blood flow and pressure, a function essential for normal circulation through tissues. On the other hand, migration and proliferation of SMCs are important factors in vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis and restenosis following surgical dilatation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Thermo- and chemosensitive properties of Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin 1 ion channels

    Author : Lavanya Moparthi; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TRP ion channels; TRPA1; ankyrin repeat domain; thermosensation; chemosensation; cold sensor; electrophiles; non-electrophiles; planar lipid bilayers; patch-clamp; fluorescence spectroscopy; mass spectrometry;

    Abstract : The ability to sense and accommodate to an ever-changing environment is crucial for the survival of living organisms. Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) ion channels comprise a large superfamily of cation conducting membrane proteins that function as molecular sensors in diverse sensory processes including perception of light, taste, smell, sound, touch and temperature. 5. 5. Characterization of Membrane Proteins: From a gated plant aquaporin to animal ion channel receptors

    Author : Sabeen Survery; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MIPs; AQPs; TRP ion channels; water transport; themo sensor; Electrophiles;

    Abstract : Membrane proteins play several important roles in a cell. Among these proteins are aquaporins (AQPs) and transient receptor potential (TRP) ion channels that mediate water transport, temperature and noxious chemical sensation, respectively. READ MORE
