  1. 21. Targeting Gb3 and apoptosis-related proteins to overcome cisplatin resistance

    Author : Andreas Tyler; Kjell Grankvist; Simon Ekman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cisplatin resistance; exosomes; gb3; HSP70; the Bcl-2 family; cell research; cellforskning; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi; onkologi; Oncology;

    Abstract : Background Cisplatin is used for treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) but treatment with cisplatin often leads to acquired resistance to cisplatin, resulting in poor patient survival. Globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) and multidrug resistance protein 1 (MDR1) have been associated with cisplatin resistance. READ MORE

  2. 22. Specific anti-tumour effects of 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (DON) on carcinoid tumour cells

    Author : Feng Wu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; carcinoid tumour; diazo-oxo-L-norleucine; mitochondria; apoptosis; PET; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Glutamine is essential for cell growth. 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (DON) is a rather old anti-tumour drug developed as a glutamine antagonist. Previous clinical trials with DON, not including carcinoid tumours, did not prove convincing. Hence the drug was not further used. READ MORE

  3. 23. In vitro wound healing characteristics of amelogenins

    Author : Sofia Almqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amelogenins; extracellular matrix; cell culture; macrophage; fibroblast; endothelial cell; integrin; cytokine; inflammation; wound healing tissue repair;

    Abstract : Wound healing involves the co-ordinated actions of several cell types, soluble cell mediators and extracellular matrix (ECM). This research project intended to investigate the role of certain ECM proteins in different processes during tissue repair by studying the interaction between dermal cells and ECM. READ MORE

  4. 24. Bacterial toxins for cancer treatment

    Author : David Johansson; Parviz Behnam-Motlagh; Kjell Grankvist; Anders Johansson; Roger Henriksson; Bo Baldetorp; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Even though anti‐cancer chemotherapy has been continuously improved during the last decades. problems with adverse effects and drug resistance still constitutes a considerable obstacle and sets a demand for new effective treatment options. READ MORE

  5. 25. Francisella tularensis infection induces macrophage cell death

    Author : Xin-He Lai; Erik Kihlström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : klinisk bakteriologi; Clinical Bacteriology;

    Abstract : Francisella tularensis, the causative agent of tularemia, is a potent human and animal pathogen. Its principal survival mechanism is rapid intracellular multiplication. READ MORE
