1. Measurement of shear force, temperature profiles and fibre development in mill-scale TMP refiners
Abstract : Two different force sensors have been developed for tangential forcemeasurements in commercial TMP refiners, one is based on the use of piezoelectricsensors and the other on strain gauges. The measurements are used to learn moreabout the refining mechanism in both single-disc (SD) refiners and conical disc(CD) refiners. READ MORE

2. Roller skis' rolling resistance and grip characteristics : influences on physiological and performance measures in cross-country skiers
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. The aim was also to study differences in skiing economy and efficiency between recreational skiers, female and male junior and senior elite cross-country skiers. READ MORE

3. Tactile Sensory Control of Dexterous Manipulation in Humans
Abstract : During dexterous manipulation with the fingertips, forces are applied to objects' surfaces. To achieve grasp stability, these forces must be appropriate given the properties of the objects and the skin of the fingertips, and the nature of the task. READ MORE

4. Investigations of Flow Conditions in an Automotive Wind Tunnel
Abstract : As vehicle manufacturers seek to shorten the development time of new models, wind tunnel testing of prototype vehicles needs to be partially replaced by virtual simulations. However, this requires thorough validation of the virtual methods, which is done by comparison to wind tunnel tests. READ MORE

5. On the Load Distribution and Design of a Chain Drive
Abstract : Three methods are presented to calculate the load distribution in a chain drive containing two sprockets and one chain. The rollers, which are in contact with the sprockets, can move along the tooth flanks and their positions are given by force equilibrium. READ MORE
