  1. 1. Home care communication moving beyond the surface

    University dissertation from Västerås : Mälardalen University

    Author : Jessica Höglander; Inger K. Holmström; Jakob Håkansson Eklund; Annelie J. Sundler; Bjöörn Fossum; [2019]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; communication; home care services; nursing staff; older persons; person-centred care; RIAS; VR-CoDES; Care Sciences; vårdvetenskap;

    Abstract : Communication is an essential part of care and human interaction. While communication within care entails both task-focused and socio-emotional elements, nurses are sometimes perceived as too task-focused. When in need of care, older persons want to be perceived and treated as individuals – to feel involved. READ MORE

  2. 2. Effective cooperative scheduling of task-parallel applications on multiprogrammed parallel architectures

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Georgios Varisteas; Mats Brorsson; Avi Mendelson; [2015]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multicore; parallel; scheduler; workload; runtime; task; adaptive; resource management; load balancing; work-stealing; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Abstract : Emerging architecture designs include tens of processing cores on a single chip die; it is believed that the number of cores will reach the hundreds in not so many years from now. However, most common parallel workloads cannot fully utilize such systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Improving Performance and Quality-of-Service through the Task-Parallel Model Optimizations and Future Directions for OpenMP

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Artur Podobas; Mats Brorsson; Georgi Gaydadjiev; [2015]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Task Parallel; OpenMP; Scheduling; OmpSs; multicore; manycore; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Abstract : With the failure of Dennard's scaling, which stated that shrinking transistors will be more power-efficient, computer hardware has today become very divergent. Initially the change only concerned the number of processor on a chip (multicores), but has today further escalated into complex heterogeneous system with non-intuitive properties -- properties that can improve performance and power consumption but also strain the programmer expected to develop on them. 4. 4. Effects of online advertising on children's visual attention and task performance during free and goal-directed internet use : A media psychology approach to children's website interaction and advert distraction

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Nils Holmberg; [2016]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; online advertising; children; website interaction; visual attention; distraction; cognitive load; eye-tracking; task-orientation; media effects; visual saliency; executive functions; media literacy; inhibitory control;

    Abstract : This dissertation consists of four eye-tracking studies that investigate how salient online advertising and children's level of executive function contributes to their advert distraction. In Study 1, children aged 9 were instructed to surf freely on the internet while all advert material appearing on-screen was registered. READ MORE

  5. 5. Short-range Optical Communications using 4-PAM

    University dissertation from Gothenburg : Chalmers tekniska högskola

    Author : Tamas Lengyel; [2017]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Data communication; vertical cavity surface emitting lasers; 4-PAM; IM DD; NRZ OOK; optical interconnects; short-range fiber optic links; multimode fiber; inter-symbol interference; intensity modulation;

    Abstract : As the demand for ever higher throughput short-range optical links is growing, research and industry has shown increased interest in multilevel modulation formats, such as the four leveled pulse amplitude modulation, referred to as 4-PAM. As on-off keying persists to be the choice for low latency applications, such as high performance computing, datacenter operators see 4-PAM as the next format to succeed current OOK-based optical interconnects.
