  1. 11. Communication, with and through wearable computers

    Author : Marcus Nilsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pervasive Mobile Computing; Distribuerade datorsystem;

    Abstract : This thesis presents research on wearable computers and their usage in communication. The wearable computer is looked upon as a tool for communication between people but also on how it can be used in communication with the environment. READ MORE

  2. 12. The Influence of Modality Combinations on Communication in Collaborative Virtual Environments

    Author : Jonas Moll; Eva-Lotta Sallnäs-Pysander; Kerstin Severinson Eklundh; Stephen Brewster; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Haptics; Audio; Multimodality; Collaboration; Communication;

    Abstract : Although many studies have been performed on collaboration in multimodal interfaces not many of these have looked specifically on how the supported modalities influence the task solving strategies chosen and the communication between users solving a joint task in collaborative virtual environments. Therefore, the thesis studies performed aimed at shedding light on these aspects of multimodality. READ MORE

  3. 13. Aspects of Communication, Language and Literacy in Autism Child Abilities and Parent Perspectives

    Author : Emilia Carlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autism spectrum disorders; communication; language; theory of mind; literacy; reading; narrative ability; children; parents;

    Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to investigate literacy, ‘theory of mind’ (ToM) and narrative ability in children who had screened positive for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) (comprehensively assessed for neuropsychiatric problems), and relate the findings to their structural linguistic capacity, as measured by language tests at the word and sentence levels. Considering the important roles of families in shaping children’s language socialisation, another aim was to explore the parental experiences of having a child go through the neuropsychiatric and language diagnostic process. 4. 14. Mediated and Mobile Communication for Experts

    Author : Marcus Nilsson; Kristina Groth; Dag Svanæs; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; beyond being there; trauma; mediated communication; mdtm; wearable computers; Människa-datorinteraktion; Human-computer Interaction;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on systems for mediated communication that run on mobile technology. The aim has been to give an answer to the question about what require- ments there are for situation awareness for domain experts when communication is secondary and supports the primary task. 5. 15. Locality-aware Scheduling and Characterization of Task-based Programs

    Author : Ananya Muddukrishna; Mats Brorsson; Christoph Kessler; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Locality-aware; Task scheduling; OpenMP; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology;

    Abstract : Modern computer architectures expose an increasing number of parallel features supported by complex memory access and communication structures. Currently used task scheduling techniques perform poorly since they focus solely on balancing computation load across parallel features and remain oblivious to locality properties of support structures.
