  1. 1. Studies of Top Physics Sensitivity and of Pile-Up Effects on Energy Reconstruction in the ATLAS Detector : A Licentiate Thesis About the Treatment of Troublesome $\tau$ and Producing Pulses to Probe Pile-up Problems

    Author : Simon Molander; Sten Hellman; Jörgen Sjölin; Klas Hultqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tau; top quark; ATLAS; LHC; TILE calorimeter; sensitivity; cross-section; standard model; physics; optimal filtering; energy reconstruction; hadronic tau decay; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents two studies conducted using the ATLAS detectorat the Large Hadron Collider. The first one is a technical study abouthow out-of-time pile-up affects energy reconstruction using the optimalfiltering 2 algorithm in the TILE calorimeter sub detector. The studyis conducted using a pulse simulator software that is also described. READ MORE

  2. 2. Instrumentation for silicon tracking at the HL-LHC

    Author : Rebecca Carney; Samuel Silverstein; Sara Strandberg; Thomas Schön; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Instrumentation; physics; particle physics; atlas; radiation damage; neuromorphic; kalman filter; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In 2027 the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will enter a high luminosity phase, deliver- ing 3000 fb 1 over the course of ten years. The High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) will increase the instantaneous luminosity delivered by a factor of 5 compared to the current operation pe- riod. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electronic Structure Calculations of Point Defects in Semiconductors

    Author : Andreas Höglund; Susanne Mirbt; Alison Mainwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; electronic structure calculations; point defects; semiconductor; formation energy; equilibrium solubility limit; thermodynamic equilibrium concentration; transfer levels; negative-U; 110 surface; diffusion; activation energy; solar cells; Fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis point defects in semiconductors are studied by electronic structure calculations. Results are presented for the stability and equilibrium concentrations of native defects in GaP, InP, InAs, and InSb, for the entire range of doping conditions and stoichiometry. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis is about high energy heavy ion physics. Two major experiments, the WA98 at CERN and the PHENIX at Brookhaven National Laboratory, are described. Results from data analysis from both experiments are presented. The WA98 chapter presents particle identification methods and phi-meson measurements. READ MORE

  5. 5. Search for Weakly Produced Supersymmetric Particles in the ATLAS Experiment

    Author : Maja Tylmad; Christophe Clément; Barbro Åsman; Patrice Verdier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS; ATLAS experiment; supersymmetry; chargino; neutralino; physics analysis; LHC; Large Hadron Collider; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The Large Hadron Collider located at CERN is currently the most powerful particle accelerator and ATLAS is an experiment designed to exploit the high energy proton-proton collisions provided by the LHC. It opens a unique window to search for new physics at very high energy, such as supersymmetry, a postulated symmetry between fermions and bosons. READ MORE
