  1. 1. Eurasian Arctic Tectonics: Geology of Severnaya Zemlya (North Kara Terrane) and Relationships to the Timanide Margin of Baltica

    Author : Henning Lorenz; David G. Gee; Robert Scott; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Arctic; Severnaya Zemlya; North Kara Terrane; Baltica; bedrock; geology; tectonics; Timanides; Caledonides; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : The North Kara Terrane (NKT), with Severnaya Zemlya as its main outcrop area, constitutes the Palaeozoic and older rocks of the northern part of the Kara Shelf. Potential field data suggest a continuation into the eastern Barents Shelf. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tectonic History and Present-Day Deformation in the Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt

    Author : Khaled Hessami; James Jackson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Zagros; Orogeny; Unconformities; Iran; Growth folds; Middel East; Tectonics; Models; GPS; basement; Seismicity; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : This thesis uses various approaches such as observation of satellite images, field investigations, analogue modeling and GPS measurements to constrain deformation of the basement and sedimentary cover of the Zagros fold-thrust belt in time and space.Focal mechanism solutions of most earthquakes indicate that deformation in the Zagros basement is due to shortening and thickening through numerous thrust faults. 3. 3. Performance in the Swedish Building Code : An Inquiry into the Consequences for Architectural Design of the Formulation and Assessment of Performance Requirements

    Author : Marja Lundgren; Timothy Anstey; Fredrik Nilsson; Meike Schalk; Anne Beim; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Architecture; architectural technology; performance-based regulation; performance requirement; energy performance; daylight metrics; tectonics; architectural representation; repertoire; context-dependent knowledge; Arkitektur; funktionskrav; energiprestanda; dagsljusfaktor; tektonik; repertoar; arkitekturteknik; Arkitektur; Architecture;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates performance-based regulation in Sweden and its consequences for architectural design. In the last 50 years, there has been a transition from prescriptive to performance-based regulation, propelled by the drive to further innovation, productivity and competitiveness by expressing the functions expected of the buildings as performances. 4. 4. Holocene environmental changes and climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean : Multiproxy sediment records from the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece

    Author : Christos Katrantsiotis; Stefan Wastegård; Rienk Smittenberg; Jan Risberg; Elin Norström; Sherilyn Fritz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mediterranean; Greece; Peloponnese; Holocene; sediments; diatoms; n-alkanes; stable isotopes; tectonics; climate variability; monsoons; NAO; NCP; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents multiproxy reconstructions of the mid to late Holocene climate and environmental changes in the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece. The combined dataset consists of diatom, biomarker and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) elemental data in radiocarbon-dated sediment cores taken from the Agios Floros fen and the Gialova Lagoon in SW Peloponnese and the Ancient Lake Lerna in NE Peloponnese. 5. 5. Tectonics of the middle Ural

    Author : Magnus Friberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the crustal structure and tectonic evolution of the Middle Urals. Theresults are based on near-vertical reflection seismic profiling, geological fieldobservations and single zircon geochronology,The Ural Mountains delimit. the eastern margin of Baltica. Prior to PalaeozoicUralian orogeny, this margin was bounded by an ocean. READ MORE
