  1. 1. Solving Problems in Surface Engineering and Tribology by Means of Analytical Electron Microscopy

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ernesto Coronel; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Tribology; Electron Microscopy; Surface Engineering; Structure and Composition; Materialvetenskap; TECHNOLOGY Materials science; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : It is well known that thin coatings can provide increased lifetime and reduced energy consumption for tools and components. During use, e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. Synthesis and Evaluation of TaC:C Low-Friction Coatings

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Daniel Nilsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Materialvetenskap; TECHNOLOGY Materials science; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk materialvetenskap; materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : In the large family of carbon-based coatings there are members capable of providing a rare and very desirable combination of high wear resistance and low friction. The field of application for this kind of coatings is steadily increasing which, naturally, give raise to new questions and demands. READ MORE

  3. 3. Method and technique development in peptide and protein mass Spectrometry

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Kristina Håkansson; Uppsala universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; electrospray ionization; peptide sequencing; Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance; hydrogen deuterium exchange; protein structure; Materialvetenskap; TECHNOLOGY Materials science; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk materialvetenskap; Molecular Biotechnology; Molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Mechanistic studies and applicability of several methods and techniques for studying peptides and proteins with mass spectrometry are presented. A model for the protein molecular ion formation in explosive matrix-assisted plasma desorption mass spectrometry is proposed, involving a contribution from the chemical energy release during conversion of the explosive, an enhanced protonation through collisions with products from the explosive decay, and electron scavenging by other products. 4. 4. Oxidation kinetics of nickel particles

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Richard Karmhag; Uppsala universitet.; [1999]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Oxidation; kinetics; nickel; particles; UFP; solar absorber; Materialvetenskap; TECHNOLOGY Materials science; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk materialvetenskap; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : Nanoparticles have an immense surface to volume ratio. This is a key factor to the new properties of some materials made up of such particles. The oxide layer formed on all materials will have a large influence on the behaviour of these materials. The layer isadvantageous in some cases but causes problems in other. READ MORE

  5. 5. Maximum a posteriori deconvulution of ultrasonic data with applications in nondestructive testing : Multiple transducer and robustness is

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Tomas Olofsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Ultrasonic pulse-echo testing; nondestructive testing; maximum a posteriori estimation; linear minimum mean squared error estimation; robust filtering; multivariable filtering; sparse deconvolution; Materialvetenskap; TECHNOLOGY Materials science; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk materialvetenskap; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Abstract : In the thesis, various aspects of deconvolution of ultrasonic pulse-echo signals in nondestructive testing are treated. The deconvolution problem is formulated as estimation of a reflection sequence which is the impulse characteristic of the inspected object and the estimation is performed using either maximum a posteriori (MAP) or linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimators.
