16. Properties of Ugandan minerals and fireclay refractories
Abstract : Development of products which can be produced from a country’s natural resources is very important as far as the industrialization of a nation and saving foreign exchange is concerned. Presently, industries in Uganda and the other states in the Lake Victoria region import all refractory-related-consumables, as the demand cannot be met locally. READ MORE

17. Miniature Phase-Transistion Actuators
Abstract : Clearly, there is a need for simple, strong actuators capable of large strokes in miniaturized systems such as valves and optical shutters. The basis for this work is the microstructure technology with processing techniques adopted from the integrated circuit industry. READ MORE

18. Calcium Aluminate based Cement as Dental Restorative Materials
Abstract : This thesis presents the results from the development process of a ceramic dental filling material based on calcium aluminate cement. The main focus of the work concerns dimensional changes during setting, hardening and curing and the understanding of the factors controlling the dimensional stability of the system. READ MORE

19. Friction stir welding of copper canisters for nuclear waste
Abstract : The Swedish model for final disposal of nuclear fuel waste is based on copper canisters as a corrosion barrier with an inner pressure holding insert of cast iron. One of the methods to seal the copper canister is to use the Friction Stir Welding (FSW), a method invented by The Welding Institute (TWI). READ MORE

20. On the shrinkage of metals and its effect in solidification processing
Abstract : The shrinkage during solidification of aluminium and iron based alloys has been studied experimentally and theoretically. The determined shrinkage behaviour has been used in theoretical evaluation of shrinkage related phenomena during solidification. Air gap formation was experimentally studied in cylindrical moulds.
