  1. 1. Role of YopE and LcrH in effector translocation, HeLa cell cytotoxicity and virulence

    Author : Margareta Aili; Roland Rosqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; bacterial pathogenesis; YopE; LcrH; virulence; effector translocation; type III secretion; regulation; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : In order to establish an extra-cellular infection the gram-negative bacteria Yersinia pseudotuberculosis uses a type III secretion system (T3SS) to translocate a set of anti-host effectors into eukaryotic cells. The toxins disrupt signalling pathways important for phagocytosis, cytokine production and cell survival. READ MORE

  2. 2. Controlling substrate export by the Ysc-Yop type III secretion system in Yersinia

    Author : Ayad Amer; Matthew Francis; David L. Gally; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Y. pseudotuberculosis; T3SS; YscX; YopD; assembly; translation control; temporal secretion.; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Several pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria invest in sophisticated type III secretion systems (T3SS) to incapacitate their eukaryotic hosts. T3SSs can secrete protein cargo outside the bacterial cell and also target many of them into the eukaryotic cell interior. READ MORE

  3. 3. Teleost reproduction: Aspects of Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) oocyte growth and maturation

    Author : Håkan Berg; Per-Erik Olsson; Birgitta Norberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Salmonid; oocyte growth; vitellogenin; vitelline envelope protein; stress; cortisol; oocyte maturation; membrane receptor; Zoofysiologi; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; Zoophysiology; zoofysiologi;

    Abstract : In all vertebrate species, reproduction is a hormonally controlled process, important for growth and maturation of gonads and germ cells. Production of functional germ cells is of outmost importance to secure the survival of a species. Fish comprises 50% of the known vertebrates and are found in aquatic habitats all over the world. 4. 4. Effects of bacterial genotoxins on immune modulation, chronic inflammation and cancer development

    Author : Anna Bergonzini; Teresa Frisan; Maria Fällman; Steffen Backert; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : The intestinal microbiome of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and colorectal cancer patients is enriched in genotoxin-producing bacteria, which cause DNA damage in the host cells.Genotoxins have recently been identified as a novel family of effectors produced by pathogenic and commensal bacteria. 5. 5. Meticulous control of the T3SS of Yersinia is essential for full virulence

    Author : Ann-Catrin Björnfot; Hans Wolf-Watz; Kelly T. Hughes; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Yersinia; type III secretion; YscU; substrate specificity switch; heat shock proteins; VagH; methyltransferase; virulence; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The type III secretion system (T3SS) of pathogenic Yersinia pseudotuberculosis is involved in virulence. The syringe-like secretion system spans both bacterial membranes and is responsible for the ability of Yersinia to transfer toxic proteins (Yop proteins) into the eukaryotic target cell. READ MORE
