  1. 11. Peakflow response of stream networks : implications of physical descriptions of streams and temporal change

    Author : Anna Åkesson; Anders Wörman; Alberto Viglione; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Streamflow routing; peakflow predictions; parameterization; hydrological response; stage-dependency; flooded cross-sections; stream networks; backwater effects; temporal change; land use change; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Through distributed stream network routing, it has quantitatively been shown that the relationship between flow travel time and discharge varies strongly nonlinearly with stream stage and with catchment-specific properties.Physically derived distributions of water travel times through a stream network were successfully used to parameterise the streamflow response function of a compartmental hydrological model. 2. 12. Cytochrome P-450 in Drosophila melanogaster : activity, genetic variation and regulation

    Author : Inger Porsch-Hällström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The cytochrome P-450 enzyme system in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, was shown to be inducible, to consist of several isozymes and to have the capacity to metabolize a variety of substrates, thus resembling the corresponding mammalian system. These similarities strengthens the value of Drosophila test systems for the detection of indirect carcinogens and mutagens. READ MORE

  3. 13. Combining cognitive and physical work tasks: Short-term effects on fatigue, stress, performance and recovery

    Author : Susanna Mixter; Svend Erik Mathiassen; David Hallman; Petra Lindfors; Paul Jarle Mork; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physical; repetitive; cognitive; mental; load; variation; job rotation; restoration; allostatic load; fysisk; repetitiv; kognitiv; mental; belastning; variation; arbetsrotation; återhämtning; allostatisk belastning; Health-Promoting Work; Hälsofrämjande arbete;

    Abstract : Background: Although combinations of physical and cognitive work tasks occurs in working life (both concurrent and alternating), no one has summarized the research regarding such combinations. Very few studies have investigated the effects of alternating physical and cognitive tasks, which have been suggested as an alternative to classic job rotation. READ MORE

  4. 14. The dynamics in harvested populations

    Author : Anders Wikström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluctuations; temporal; state-space; Harvest; cod; vendace; elasticity; stage-structured; stochastic; growth-rate; Baltic Sea; Bothnian Bay;

    Abstract : We are interested in the effect of harvesting on population fluctuations and for that purpose we develop and analyze an age-structured model where recruitment is a stochastic process and the adult segment of the population is harvested. When a constant annual harvest is taken the coefficient of variation of the adult population increases for most parameter values due to the age truncation effect, i. READ MORE

  5. 15. Temporal and spatial variation in predation on roe deer fawns

    Author : Jonas Nordström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with variation in mortality of roe deer fawns, over time and in space, caused by red fox and Eurasian lynx predation in a boreal landscape. The thesis considers historic and recent effects of vole population dynamics on red fox predation on roe deer fawns, using long term time series from Grimsö Wildlife Research Area. READ MORE
