  1. 1. Thermal response test : method development and evaluation

    Author : Signhild Gehlin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : Since the first introduction of thermal response tests with mobile measurement devices in Sweden and USA in 1995, the method has developed and spread in North America and Europe. Thermal response tests have so far been used primarily for in situ determination of design data for BHE (borehole heat exchanger) systems, but also for evaluation of grout material, heat exchanger types and groundwater effects. 2. 2. Hydropower generator and power system interaction

    Author : Johan Bladh; Urban Lundin; Rafael Escarela-Perez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Amortisseur windings; applied voltage test; automatic voltage regulators; damper windings; damping torque; empirical modelling; equivalent circuits; excitation control; finite element method; hydropower generators; power system restoration; power system stability; synchronous machines; self excitation; shaft torque amplification; short circuit test; single machine infinite bus; slip test; standstill frequency response test; subsynchronous oscillations; synchronising torque; synchronous generators; torsional interaction.; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : After decades of routine operation, the hydropower industry faces new challenges. Large-scale integration of other renewable sources of generation in the power system accentuates the role of hydropower as a regulating resource. READ MORE

  3. 3. Design, testing and analysis of journal bearings for construction equipment

    Author : Henrik Strand; Sören Andersson; Arto Lehtovaara; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Contact Mechanics; Finite Element; Grease; Journal Bearing; Lubrication; Replica Technique; Test Apparatus; Tribology; Wear; Mechanical manufacturing engineering; Mekanisk tillverkningsteknik;

    Abstract : Grease-lubricated journal bearings present a common challenge for construction equipment manufacturers in the world. The common design methodology is based on empirical data and has worked very well historically because the market and governments have accepted that bearings in construction equipment need frequent lubrication and exchange of worn parts. 4. 4. Cerebrospinal fluid infusion methods : development and validation on patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus

    Author : Nina Andersson; Anders Eklund; Karin Wårdell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Infusion test; idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus; outflow conductance; outflow resistance; intracranial pressure; cerebrospinal fluid dynamics; medical informatics; medicinsk informatik;

    Abstract : Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) infusion tests can be used to estimate the dynamic properties of the CSF system. Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is a syndrome signified by a disturbance to the CSF system, where the cause is unknown and the diagnosis is difficult to determine. READ MORE

  5. 5. Laboratory Investigations of Frost Action Mechanisms in Soils

    Author : Deniz Dagli; Jan Laue; Tommy Edeskär; Lukas Arenson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cold Regions Soil Mechanics; Frost Action; Frost Depth; Frost Heave; Heat Flow in Soils; Ice Lens Formation; Image Analysis; Laboratory Freezing Test; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : Phase change of the water in the soil skeleton under cold climate conditions (also known as frost action in soils) affects soil properties and can be responsible for serious alterations in a soil body; causing damages (due to the volumetric expansion known as frost heave) to structures on or below the ground surface such as foundations, roads, railways, retaining walls and pipelines, etc. In order to improve the current design methods for roads against frost action, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has initiated a research program.
