  1. 1. Small-Scale Dosimetry for the Testis: Applications in Nuclear Medicine Diagnostics and Therapy

    Author : Suaad Meerkhan; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Testis; 111-In; Autoradiography; Biodistribution; Small-Scale; Monte Carlo; Dosimetry; spermatogonia; gammaH2AX; immunofluorescence;

    Abstract : It is well known that the testicles are among the most radiosensitive tissue, and constitute an important critical target for both external and internal radiation during diagnostic and therapeutic use of radionuclides. In systemic radionuclide therapy where very high activities are administered, the testis may become a dose-limiting organ; often with a complex, non-uniform activity distribution and a resulting non-uniform absorbed-dose distribution. 2. 2. Transcriptomic and Proteomic Analysis of Tumor Markers in Tissue and Blood from Patients with Lung Cancer

    Author : Dijana Djureinovic; Patrick Micke; Keith Kerr; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : non-small cell lung cancer; prognostic biomarkers; cancer-testis antigens; prediction model; tumor markers; autoantibodies; testis; screening; Patologi; Pathology;

    Abstract : Despite recent treatment advancements, the survival outcome remains poor for the majority of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aim of this thesis was to evaluate protein expression to predict prognosis and identify biomarkers that can be used as targets for immunotherapy or for early detection of NSCLC. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase and Protein Kinase B; Molecular characterization in testis, adipose tissue and pancreatic beta cells

    Author : Lena Stenson; Signaltransduktionsforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; signal transduction; pancreas; beta cells; adipocyte; insulin; Akt; protein kinase B; spermatogenesis; cholesterol esterase; hormone-sensitive lipase; testis; cAMP; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and protein kinase B (PKB) are enzymes that in different ways are associated with lipid metabolism. While HSL is the well-known lipolytic enzyme responsible for hydrolysis of stored triacylglycerols in adipose tissue, PKB is a recently identified serine/threonine protein kinase, ubiquitously expressed and involved in signal transduction pathways induced by insulin and growth factors. 4. 4. A functional genomics approach to PDGF and pericyte biology

    Author : Cecilia Bondjers; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : PDGF; hair follicle; skin; testis; epithelial-mesenchymal interaction; microarray; pericyte; transgenic mouse;

    Abstract : The rapid expansion of genome sequence data demands for increased efforts and speed concerning functional analysis of gene products. Two approaches to such analysis, namely transgenic technologies and analysis of gene expression have successfully been used to study functions of gene products in complex organisms, such as mammals. 5. 5. Endocrine Disruption in Amphibians : Developmental Effects of Ethynylestradiol and Clotrimazole on the Reproductive System

    Author : Irina Gyllenhammar; Cecilia Berg; Ingvar Brandt; Lena Holm; Joakim Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Test system; Xenopus tropicalis; Rana temporaria; sex ratio; sex differentiation; fertility; aromatase; ovary; testis; oviduct; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Amphibian populations are declining world-wide and one of the suggested reasons is environmental pollutants. Studies of long-term effects on the reproductive system in frogs following larval exposure to environmental pollutants are scarce. It is therefore important to develop methods to study developmental reproductive toxicity in amphibians. READ MORE
