  1. 6. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models

    Author : Henrik Krook; Anthony Dorling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Type 1 diabetes; Parkinson’s disease; xenotransplantation; islets; neural tissue; heart; mRNA; cytokines; rejection.; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process. 2. 7. T cell Function in Patients with Dilated Cardiomyopathy

    Author : Erika Lindberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cardiomyopathy; lymphocytes; cytokines; autoimmunity; infection;

    Abstract : Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a heart muscle disease characterized by dilatation of one or both ventricles together with decreased systolic function. Its etiology is still largely unknown. READ MORE

  3. 8. Cytokine responses in metal-induced allergic contact dermatitis : Relationship to in vivo responses and implication for in vitro diagnosis

    Author : Jacob Minang; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Niklas Ahlborg; Rik Scheper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metal allergy; Contact dermatitis; cytokines; ELISA; ELISpot; Flow cytometry; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Transition metals such as nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), palladium (Pd), chromium (Cr) and gold (Au) are widely used as alloys in jewelry and biomaterials such as orthodontic and orthopaedic appliances. These metals also cause cell-mediated allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) reactions in a significant proportion of the population upon prolonged direct exposure. READ MORE

  4. 9. Cytokine studies in the generation and treatment of IgE-mediated allergy

    Author : Ankie Söderlund; Huub Savelkoul; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cytokines; Hypersensitivity; Allergy; Allergi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : So called Th2 cytokines, such as IL-4 and IL-13 are responsible for the formation of IgE antibodies, the effector antibody in atopic allergy. Cytokines of Th1 type, for example IFN-g, inhibit these responses. This thesis describes work aimed at elucidating the cytokine production underlying IgE-mediated allergy. READ MORE

  5. 10. Modulation of cytokine production by mononuclear cells in allergic inflammation. The effects of allergen exposure and anti-inflammatory agents

    Author : Katarzyna Wosinska-Becler; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytokines; seasonal allergy; kinetics; CysLTR1 antagonist; montelukast; rush immunotherapy; monocyte; basophil; eosinophil; NK cell; T cell;

    Abstract : In pollen-sensitized subjects, seasonal allergen exposure results in clinical allergic disease, which in affected tissues displays a morphological picture typical of chronic inflammation. The cellular responses to allergens include the production of inflammatory cytokines that can be examined in peripheral blood cells. READ MORE
