  1. 6. Interplay between Pathogenic and Immune Regulatory Mechanisms in G-alpha-i2 deficient colitis

    Author : Yu-Yuan Chiu Götlind; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : IBD; G-alpha-i2 colitis; Tregs; Teffs; Th17 Th1; pathogenesis immunoregulation;

    Abstract : The two major forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are gastrointestinal disorders characterized by chronic and relapsing inflammation. Mice deficient in the inhibitory G protein subunit Gαi2 spontaneously develop chronic colitis and have been used as a model for IBD, with particular similarities to UC. READ MORE

  2. 7. The ontogeny and function of intestinal dendritic cells

    Author : Emma Persson; Slemhinnans immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mesenteric lymph nodes; Intestine; Dendritic cells; Gut-homing; Th17 cells; Oral tolerance; Immunity;

    Abstract : The intestinal mucosa presents a huge surface area to the external environment and the intestinal immune system is continually exposed to a wide array of foreign antigens derived from resident intestinal microbiota as well as dietary constituents, including food proteins. In order to maintain intestinal homeostasis, the intestinal immune system relies on the ability to generate tolerogenic responses to innocuous antigen while maintaining the ability to develop effective immune responses to intesinal pathogens. 3. 8. Studies of Mucosal Immune Regulation in Celiac Disease and Type 1 Diabetes

    Author : Anne Lahdenperä; Johnny Ludvigsson; Outi Vaarala; Rosaura Casas; Eva Sverremark-Ekström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Background: Celiac disease (CD) and type 1 diabetes (T1D) are two chronic autoimmune diseases with increasing incidence worldwide. A combination of genetic, environmental and immunological factors is considered to be involved in development of the diseases, even though the exact disease mechanisms still are unknown. READ MORE

  4. 9. A study on the role of T helper cells in allergic inflammation

    Author : Julian Mario Stark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways affecting hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Central to the development of asthma and allergic airway inflammation are CD4 T cells, which upon activation through their T cell antigen receptor, differentiate into T helper (Th) cells with the potential to secrete distinct sets of cytokines. 5. 10. T-cell specificity and regulation in atherosclerosis

    Author : Anton Gisterå; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death in the world. The underlying cause in most cases is atherosclerosis, a chronic inflammatory disease. Subendothelial retention of lipoproteins triggers monocyte-derived macrophages and T-helper (Th) 1 cells to form lipid-laden atherosclerotic plaques in the artery wall. READ MORE
