  1. 1. Immunocytochemical studies of excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters and transporters in the spinal cord and nucleus submedius

    Author : Stefan Persson; Neurofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; VGLUT2; VGLUT1; pain; somatosensory; thalamus; immunogold; glutamate; aspartate; dorsal horn; excitatory amino acids; spinal cord; neurofysiologi; Neurologi;

    Abstract : The amino acid glutamate is today regarded as the main fast excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system and a large body of evidence support that glutamate serves as a neurotransmitter in primary afferent terminals in the spinal cord. Previous evidence also suggests that the closely related amino acid aspartate may serve a similar role in some primary afferent terminals. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Serotonin Transporter and the Vesicular Monoamine Transporters During Development

    Author : Stefan R Hansson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; whiskers; lateral geniculate; infraorbital nerve; neural crest; merkel; somatosensory cortex; Key wordscitalopram; thalamus; visual cortex; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : In the present study, the mRNA encoding the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and two isoforms of the vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT1 and VMAT2) have been mapped in the rat throughout gestation and early postnatal development using in situ hybridization, RT PCR and immunohistochemistry. 5-HTT mRNA was found in serotonergic neurons and VMAT2 mRNA in all monoaminergic neurons from early gestation. 3. 3. Cervicothalamic tract termination and its cortical connections: anatomical studies in cats and ferrets

    Author : Mengliang Zhang; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsychology; Neurology; Carnivora; Cytoarchitecture; Immunocytochemistry; Compartmentation; Retrograde transport; Anterograde transport; Somatosensory cortex; Thalamus; Spinal cord; Lateral cervical nucleus; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : The termination and cortical connections of the cervicothalamic tract (CTT) were studied by neuroanatomical tract tracing techniques in cats and ferrets. After injections of wheat germ agglutinin-horseradish peroxidase conjugate or biotinylated dextran amine (BDA) into the cat lateral cervical nucleus (LCN), the most abundant CTT termination is present in the ventral posterior lateral nucleus (VPL). 4. 4. Neuronal networks involved in low back pain; experimental studies

    Author : Elin Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; low back pain; disc herniation; pyramidal tract; reticulospinal tract; longissimus muscle; nucleus pulposus; VPL; thalamus; rat; cat;

    Abstract : Low back pain is a common cause of disability, with a lifetime prevalence of up to 80%. A lumbar disc herniation, involving a bulging disc and/or leakage of the intervertebral disc’s nucleus pulposus, may be a possible cause of back and sciatic pain. Low back pain has also been associated with dysfunctional control of the paraspinal muscles. READ MORE
