  1. 1. Use of primary human hepatocytes for the elucidation of bile acid synthesis

    Author : Ewa C S Ellis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In the present investigation we cultured primary human hepatocytes on matrigel under serum-free conditions and studied bile acid formation. The following observations were made: · The major steroid products excreted from primary human hepatocytes into the culture medium were cholic acid, CA (70%) and chenodeoxycholic acid, CDCA (25%) conjugated with glycine or taurine. 2. 2. Structure and function of the HDL receptor SR-BI : scavenger receptor class B type I

    Author : Magnus S.C. Johnson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SR-BI; HDL; Cholesterol; Scavenger receptor; Apoptosis; Ovary; Gallbladder; Peroxisome;

    Abstract : Low plasma levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) are well-recognized risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The uptake and degradation of LDL cholesterol have been characterized in detail at the molecular level. Less is known about the metabolism and cellular uptake of HDL cholesterol. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Role of Proline Catabolism in Candida albicans Pathogenesis

    Author : Fitz Gerald S. Silao; Per O. Ljungdahl; Joachim Morschhäuser; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Candida albicans; proline metabolism; ATP; P5C; virulence; macrophage; hyphae; filamentation; Ras1 cAMP PKA; mitochondria; Proline dehydrogenase; P5C dehydrogenase; reactive oxygen species; Proline-P5C cycle; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Candida albicans is an opportunistic fungal pathogen that has evolved in close association with human hosts. Pathogenicity is linked to an array of virulence characteristics expressed in response to environmental cues and that reflect the requirement to take up and metabolize nutrients available in the host. 4. 4. Development and aging of nerve fibres in the rat inferior alveolar nerve

    Author : Carina S. Johansson; Claes Nordberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Structural and functional properties of nerve fibres in the rat inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) were examined during development and aging.Rat molar pulpal expllints influence neurite outgrowth from perinatal rat trigeminal ganglion explants, eo-cultured in vitro. READ MORE

  5. 5. Chiral and toxicological aspects of citalopram : an experimental study in rats

    Author : Fredrik C. Kugelberg; Olav Spigset; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Citalopram (CIT) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which is used for the treatment of different psychiatric disorders. The indications for prescription of OT are linked to high risks for intentional intoxications. CIT is one of the most commonly found drugs in Swedish forensic autopsy cases. READ MORE
