  1. 1. Deformation and Fatigue Behaviour of Aluminium Alloys for High Specific Power IC Engine Applications

    Author : Elanghovan Natesan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cylinder head; aluminium; constitutive models; thermo-mechanical fatigue; fatigue; ageing; mechanical behaviour; A356;

    Abstract : The development towards higher specific power and lower displacement engines in recent years has placed increasingly high thermal loads on the internal combustion engine materials. Further, the advent of hybrid power trains placing higher demands on quick starts and a rapid approach to maximum power necessitates the automotive industry to move towards a more robust computational thermo-mechanical fatigue life prediction methodology to develop reliable engines and reduce developmental costs. 2. 2. Parameters affecting the functionality of additives in lubricated contacts : effect of base oil polarity

    Author : Aldara Naveira Suarez; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : Traditionally rolling contact fatigue observed in bearing field applications was subsurface initiated. However, despite the improvement of steel properties, some factors such as downsizing in bearing design, extreme loading of the bearings as well as demanding application conditions (start up-stop cycles) have led to an increase on the cases of surface damage related to surface initiated fatigue, that comes basically from surface distress. 3. 3. Very high cycle fatigue of automotive steels : Testing and computation at 20 kHz

    Author : Mohamed Sadek; Jens Bergström; Nils Hallbäck; Ulrich Krupp; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Very high cycle fatigue; ultrasonic fatigue testing; automotive steels; fatigue strength; stress intensity computation; crack growth; Materialteknik; Materials Engineering;

    Abstract : Mechanical fatigue failure occurs in components subjected to cyclic loading. A crack initiates at critical regions in the component and propagates during repeated loading. The expected fatigue life depends on the level, type and frequency of the loading. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effect of shear cutting on metal fatigue

    Author : David Gustafsson; Erik Olsson; Jörgen Kajberg; Pär Jonsén; Henrik Sieurin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Punching; Trimming; Shear cutting; Fatigue; HCF; Residual stresses; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Lightweighting of automotive and heavy-duty vehicle components is an important task that does not need any further motivation or background. It can be read in a large part of the technical papers in the field. A common approach for finding lighter solutions is to increase the material grade while decreasing the material thickness. 5. 5. Effects of manufacturing chain on mechanical performance : Study on heat treatment of powertrain components

    Author : Johan Fahlkrans; Arne Melander; Bengt Lindberg; Stefan Jonsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Heat treatment; case hardening; carburising; induction hardening; gas quenching; tempering; straightening; fatigue strength; contact fatigue; fracture mechanics; Industriell ekonomi och organisation; Industrial Economics and Management; Production Engineering; Industriell produktion; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : The increasing demands for lightweight designs with high strength call for improved manufacturing processes regarding heat treatment of steel. The manufacturing process has considerable potential to improve the mechanical performance and to obtain more reliable results with less variation. READ MORE
